When I put an initial value in the Edit Account window and reconcile one month later, entering the new (target) balance when reconciling produces a reconciliation total that is correct, but on entering it in the register I get an absolutely cuckoo total that has nothing to do with reality. What's wrong?

Bill Pittmantag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/469408892019-02-10T16:11:43Z2019-02-10T16:11:43ZReconciliation totals wrong

Hi Bill,

Something to check is to see if the register is sorted by date. When it's not, the balance column can display some odd looking values.

If this is not the issue, perhaps a few screenshots of what you are describing might help.

Keep in mind that these are public forums. Redact any sensitive information (e.g. account numbers) before posting the screenshot.

mentioned. See the enclosure.

I’ve been using Moneydance with the original account for the past 10 years.
When I installed the upgrade, all the balances went cockamamie. And they
remain that way.

So I started a new account at the beginning of 2019, with a balance in the
Edit Account/Initial Value blank of $509,349.32. As you can see, when I
added the “Investment fee” entry the balance changed correctly. But when I
reconciled the account with the new balance for 2/1, the increased amount
of $48,688.70 produced a balance about $98,000 higher. That makes no sense
at all.

So the problem exists in both the original account, going back to 2009, and
the new account. Fix it. PLEASE!

Windows 10 Home (1809)
Moneydance 2019.1 (1855)

I can not reproduce this behavior in the above environment.

The only oddity that I see in your screenshot is that there appears to be no category assigned to the Increase transaction.

As it is impossible to not have a category, it suggests that you may have a category set up with a "blank" name. I have seen some very strange things happen in older versions of Moneydance when this is done, so would suggest that if you have done this change the name and perhaps use a name that indicates it is a value adjustment and see what happens.

dwgtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/469408892019-02-12T00:33:02Z2019-02-12T00:33:02ZReconciliation totals wrong

Well, we’ll see, won’t we?

I’m using a Mac. Maybe I’ll try assigning a category. But for now,
I’ll quit using Moneydance and call it a total loss since the last
“upgrade”.
