Hello,
What version of Moneydance are you using? You can find this out by selecting Help-> Console Window from the menu bar in Moneydance at looking at the first few lines.
If you are using Moneydance 2012, syncing between computers is not possible at this time, but we are working on a method to sync between computers for our next major release. If you are using a version prior to 2012, you can sync between your computers by sharing your .md Moneydance data file on a home network that both computers can access, or by using an online file syncing service, such as Dropbox to share the data file.
Please let me know if I can be of further assistance,

Thank you for your response. I am using Moneydance version 2011 R2 (803) on both computers.

Hi Joe,
Go to dropbox.com and download and set up an account with them, it is free up to 2 gigs.
Now in Moneydance go to File->Save as and save your Moneydance folder in your new dropbox folder.
Now from your computer which you have also put dropbox on, Open your MD file that is contained in the dropbox folder.
Now, as long as you always access the copy in dropbox and your computer has network access so it can sync, then they will always be synced.
Please let us know if you have any more questions.
Sincerely,
Jon Hoover, Moneydance Support

I am using version 2012.5(862). Since I cannot sync to my laptop how do I get the file from my desktop to the laptop?

Hi,
It is now possible to use dropbox for Moneydance 2012. When you first brought your Moneydance file into 2012, did you do 'Convert and Import' or just 'Convert.'?
If you did Convert then your file was renamed to end with the extension .moneydance and is located in dropbox still. You just need to direct Moneydance 2012 on your other computer to that location.
If you did 'Convert and Import' then your file is stored in an internal library that you will need to move it out of:
Moneydance is putting new (non-imported) files into a specific location by default. If you want to move your files to a different location after creating them please do the following:
1. Go to Help->Show Documents Folder.
2. Close Moneydance.
3. Drag or 'Cut' yourfilename.moneydance file bundle to the location of your choosing. Don't copy it, you don't want to leave a duplicate copy behind.
4. Open Moneydance and on the Welcome Screen use 'Open Other' to point Moneydance towards your files new location.
For a longer explanation please look here.
Please let us know if you have any more questions.
Sincerely,
Jon Hoover, Moneydance Support

Mind if I jump in with a question on this discussion? I have MD 2012 on my iMac and have it synced with my iPhone via dropbox. I would now like to have my Macbook (same MD version) synced as well, for access to my current financial info while traveling. I downloaded Dropbox to my Macbook and tried to open the file from my dropbox folder "Our finances.md alias", but it was greyed out. Then I changed the file title on my iMac by removing the word "alias", and now it's no longer greyed out but when I try to open it in MD, it tells me "There was an error converting the file, please try again." Do I need to have my actual MD file in dropbox, and not just an alias of the file saved on my iMac? Thanks!

Lizingalls,
Yes, you need to have your actual MD file stored in Dropbox. To move your Moneydance 2012 data file please follow the instructions here. Your Moneydance 2012 data file will have a name like "Our Finances.moneydance." I hope this helps you to get up and running with Dropbox and please let me know if I can be of further assistance,
