Register is full of bugs

I use an iMac OS X v 10.5.8. I downloaded MD 2010 (723) Java version 1.5.0_22. This is the 4th time I have written about the same problem and have gotten absolutely no help and the problem/s is getting worse. The columns on the register keep changing widths after I have saved my changes and closed down the program. When I open the program up again, not only are most of the the columns a different width than what I had made them but they are actually out of order. I have to drag the line passed the others in order to have them in the right place. I change the sorting selection to "date entered" but when I reopen the program, it's back to "amount" - sometimes while I have the program open. I do save all my changes. In order to change the widths, I have to enlarge the register and then I can finally see the crosses between the columns at the top of the page. The do not come up in the registers size the program opens in. It does me no good to change anything as the changes revert back to the ones that were there before I changed then. I'm at my wits end because I rely heavily on Money Dance. What happened to my lovely program? If I need a newer version of java, please tell me where to go to install it. I hope one of the 4 techs hear my plea and gives me some help.

    Hi

I read in your other post that build 727 has not fixed the problem for you. Which register exactly are you having trouble with? investment, bank, security, etc. Do all of them show the same problem? (each keeps their column settings in a different place)

    Sincerely

I only use Money Dance for my checking account. I just tried it again
and the sort choice was once again saved but three of the columns had
gone to very small widths so that the column categories could not be
seen. The date and check number columns have enlarged a great deal.
The description/memo, the category/tag and C columns have virtually
disappeared. The payment rate, deposit and balance columns have stayed
the same. This is not always the way the columns are changed width-
wise but the last 2-3 times it's been the same. I always save them
when I change them but they do not save.

Hi, I don't work for MoneyDance, I'm just a user, but wondering if this will help you:

Even with the old MD2008, I VERY occasionally had a problem where the register column widths would be sized very narrow and unusable. But if I did a control-N (New transaction), then ESC (to cancel that new transaction), it magically reized the columns correctly and they stayed that way.

I haven't seen this problem in MD2010 yet but wanted to mention it in case it helps anyone.

Thanks, Joe. Will try this. Never had any probs with 1008. Wish I had never upgraded.

Can you please tell me if you frequently change the size of your window. And do you run the application with the main window maximized?

Until downloading the 2010 version, I never changed the size of the
window. I only did it in the 2010 version because most of the columns
were so narrow that I could not get the column moving cross to come
up. I could not even see the first letter of the category. When I
enlarged it, I could at least access that little cross and change the
column widths. When I clicked on the maximize button the first time,
it was not what I would call maximized - just a little bigger. If I
clicked it again, the register window would be gone but the 3 buttons
on the top right hand side of the screen would be up in the left hand
side of the screen, all by themselves. I just tried it with the beta
version and that didn't happen. The window fully maximized when I
clicked on it again. The 3 columns that I told you narrowed up were
narrow again. I do not know what you would call the size of what I
have been running the program. It sure isn't fully maximized nor is it
the size of the window on 2008. I can maximize since downloading beta
    327. At least the maximize/minimize button works now. All I need is
for those 3 columns to stay the same size.

Ben, I just maximized the screen, fixed the columns that way I wanted them. saved them, got out of the program, reopened and everything was the way I saved it before closing down. Guess that takes care of my problems. I didn't want to maximize as I have a 24 inch screen and it really isn't necessary to have such a large register but if it works that way, I'll get used to it. Thanks for your patience and help. It is much appreciated. I bought Moneydance 2 years ago when I got my iMac. I really like the program and was upset to see the problems. I now also know how to use your help section.

Interesting thing I discovered. Now that I can maximize the register's window in my checking account, it will not change to another size. No matter how many times I hit the maximize button, it stays the same large size. Very strange, this 2010 version of DM.

Opened up MD this morning and have saving issues again. The columns are not as narrow as before but they are definitely different than the way I saved them. Also, once again, when I click on the maximize button, the register disappears and the 3 buttons that are usually on the upper right hand corner of the register window are over to the left in a little grayish bar, all by themselves. Not sure what to do about this.

I do not think this problem has been resolved. Hoping Ben or someone else working for MD looks at my latest complaint!

I'm not a MD user, just investigating, but having to run with a window maximized in order to avoid bugs is totally unacceptable.

Did you try deleting the preferences for MD? That's the standard place for Mac applications to store things like window sizes and column widths/ordering.

I went into the preferences but saw nothing at all that addresses the screen/window size. Thanks for trying to help. I have not heard from anyone but you since writing the latest comment today. Trying to be patient as they seem to have a lot of things to work out.

We are working on this issue, and I hope that that next build (likely released Thursday) will improve it. We have been having a difficult time re-creating this bug, making it more difficult to diagnose and solve, but we are working on it.

We will post more when we have further information.

Any help out there to allow me to use MD in a window that is not maximized? Still cannot get it to go smaller. Way too big with my large screen.

Was sent and downloaded MD2010r2 (735). No improvement on my maximizing problems, column widths and saving some things.
    Tried doing these directions:
    1) Maximize window
    2) Click the restore down button (upper right hand corner, next to the X to close)
    3) On the status bar, right-click to size, right-click to close/quit
    4) Restart Moneydance
It all seems like Greek to me. I have no restore down button on the right hand corner that I can see. Only have a "new transaction" button. I have no "X" to close down the program. What and where is the status bar? I've trying right clicking all over the register and if I do get a menu up, there is no option to size or to close. Are we talking about the Mac version? Can you tell me how and where to find these things? Help!
    Please!

    Marylou,

Those directions deal with Windows window minimize/maximize issues. The
developer tells me that version 735 should have resolved these issues, so it
seems like this is an atypical bug. I have directed our developer to look
into your issue further, and I will follow up with him tomorrow.

I sincerely apologize for the inconvenience you have experienced,

    Hi Angie!
    Java Version: 1.5.0_22
Java Vendor: Apple Inc. I did a software search of upgrades and got a message that all were up to date,
I can fix the column sizes in maximized mode only but the date column change does not save and is very wide. The balance column cannot be changed at all as there is no little cross that appears to the right of that column. To change the size of the whole register by dragging the little thing at the bottom right of the window changes all the columns at once and most of them get very narrow again. By the way, the minimize, maximize and close buttons are on the left upper side of the page. Don't know why I said the right side.
Thanks for any help you can give me.
