Number format in the UK
I've just converted to MD2012 and while everything's now fine, the dates are not formatted correctly to UK format for a couple of enquiries - those pertaining to Banks, Credit Cards and Liabilities ignore the date format set in Preferences. Only those enquiries are affected, as far as I could tell.

Hello,
I just tested this out, and it appears that changing the date format did not affect those types of accounts that you mentioned as you described. However, when I completely closed Moneydance and reopened the program, the dates appear to have changed in all accounts. Can you please try closing and restarting Moneydance to see if this resolves the problem for you as well?

Thanks for looking at this.
I have closed and re-opened the program, and it now works. Yet of course in
order to upgrade, I did close and reopen it. Never mind - it's now fixed.
I also note that it now takes ages to start, and I presume that's because
it has records going back quite a few years. Do you have advice as to how
to improve its startup time (currently over 120 seconds)? I would guess the
answer you have is to create an archive, but it is important to me to be
able to search all history, rather than individual years. If I created an
archive every couple of years, any search would be a real hassle. But it's
a pain anyway, so I'll go with it if I have to.
Second (third?) query: how do you calculate the cost value of stocks? Being
naive about it, I simply add up all the stocks and their individual costs,
and form a total price per share. This doesn't work when I've bought and
sold a few shares - my figures don't match yours, and I can't explain the
differences.

Hi Doug
Moneydance should not be taking anything like 120 seconds to load. Can you tell me how large your data file is? Also can you tell me what extensions you have installed?
With regard to calculating the cost of your stocks have you tried running the "Cost Basis" report?
Sincerely

Hi Ben,
The data file (the one with a suffix of '.md~') is 358Kb, which seems to me to be quite small. The backup file however (suffix 'md-2012-10-24') is 1.7Mb. There are also 250Kb files which seem to be interim dumps.
I have tried the Cost Basis report and can see a discrepancy between the Cost Basis Report and some Sell transactions - not what I expected and it may have nothing to do with anything. You'll notice that the Cost Basis report for the sale of 100 shares on July 5th, 2012 gives a value of £1236.23 while the Transaction Register shows a value of £1315.61. I always balance with the Transaction Register, and that reflects the broker's records.
This is not a big problem; I have noticed it for a while but assumed my understanding of how the system worked as somehow different to reality; now I'm not so sure.
Thanks for your interest - and please be aware I have a similar query with my broker - but his records differ again from yours !
So for me this is a trail of gradual understanding.

Hi Doug,
Regarding the slow opening, are you running Sophos Antivirus? If so, can you try disabling it and see if Moneydance opens faster? Sophos has an option that scans within archives upon launch and since Java programs consist of many archives, it can slow down launching tremendously.

Hi Scott,
Spot on!
I disabled the MoneyDance app and work directory in Sophos, and it behaved beautifully.
Now I'm going to have to re-schedule my coffee breaks :-)
Congratulations - and great support!
Doug
