Hi Richard
There are two methods within Moneydance for obtaining security prices automatically.
The extension “Quote and Exchange Rate Updater found under EXTENSIONS – MANAGE EXTENSIONS. Check you are running the latest build v1024. For exchange rates use the source European Central Bank. Alpha Vantage covers the US as well as some securities outside the US, but is very, very slow. It’s my understanding that the source IEX Trading no longer works.
If the Quote and exchange rate updater does not work well for you try the free third-party Quote Loader. Both of the sources in the Quote Loader have good coverage of worldwide securities.
See post 205 at https://infinitekind.tenderapp.com/discussions/investments/4039-quote-loader-securitycurrency-price-loader-for-moneydance-2019/page/7#comment_47493595
Download the PDF attached to posts 205 and have a read.
To get an overview take a look at the YouTube video by using the link on page 1 of the PDF.
Quote Loader will probably provide better coverage in your location, Australia.
If it would help just post a sample selection of your security ticker symbols with there names and I will test.
Let us know how you get on or if you need help just post.
Hope this helps.

thanks for the interesting idea which i have downloaded however i dont
understand:
SELECT, am i supposed to tick this, if i do it says this line doesn't
have a price which refers to lack of NEW PRICE also NEW PRICE doesnt
show for evry holding and if it does it seems a strange amount compared
to the A$ price in LAST PRICE
What is TRADE DATE
What is TRADE CURR as the Australian exchange are all in A$
Will these prices automatically appear in my Investments page where i
list all my holdings etc
regards
Richard

Richard
The lines in green can be selected as you have a price. The lines in red have not found a price, you need to check the Ticker against Yahoo.
Only funds/equities listed on Yahoo.com or ft.com can be retrieved. Neither Yahoo or FT provide prices for Bonds so I'm afraid Quote Loader can not retrieve prices.
Try changing ANZPD to ANZPD:ASX and changing the source to FT.com

Alternatively select ASX from the Exchange list and change the source to FT. FT has better coverage around the world

Hi Richard
To add to Mikes comments.
See screen shot, all of your securities returning quotes except
Amp China (AMP )is no longer traded ? see https://www.asx.com.au/asx/statistics/announcements.do?by=issuerId&issuerId=6239&timeframe=D&period=W
PRAECO AU3CB fixed bond jul 2022 is a fixed rate bond and thus not quoted on Yahoo or FT. If you have found a price for this from another source you can edit to add this price and traded date as outlined in the PDF before saving selected values.
For ASX you need to change the ticker symbol from ASX.AX to ASX
Beadell Resources (BDR) no longer traded? see
https://www.asx.com.au/asx/statistics/announcements.do?by=asxCode&asxCode=BDR&timeframe=D&period=M6
Set up Quote Loader as the seen shot and it should work for you.
All the questions you have asked are covered in the PDF.
After clicking “ Get Prices” to select all the returned New Prices click “Click to Select all lines” then click “Save Selected Value” the Prices are entered into the relevant security price history windows within Moneydance.
As outlined in the PDF some ticker symbols are stock exchange specific. In these cases, if no exchange is selected it is normal to default to a main stock market e.g. ALG is the ticker for Alamo Group, Inc. a US traded company, thus it returns a US dollar price. Ardent Leisure Group Ltd has the same ticker symbol ALG but is traded on the Australian stock exchange, thus it requires the exchange to be selected to enable the correct price to be returned.
TRADED DATE defines the date to which the New Price relates.
TRADED CURRENCY defines the currency in which the security is quoted. Some user have securities that are quoted in a foreign currency, that is not the base currency.
Hope this helps.

Hi Richard
How to use Quote Loader is covered in a PDF attached to post 9 at https://infinitekind.tenderapp.com/discussions/investments/4914-the...
The PDF also contains links to YouTube videos, take a look.
It also shows how to set all securities to FT in one go.
To save setting click on the SAVE PARAMETERS button.
Hope this helps.

Mike, I would like to make a suggestion re your file name: please include the version/build number in the file name of the .mxt files, or if this is not possible because of MD, please show the build number next to the download link for the .mxt file
I am running MD v1880 on my Mac and Security Price Loader Build 3009; I usually update to "final" releases, not betas.
I live in the USA and all my securities are held at Fidelity. SPL works well for my situation and I use it once a week when I download my positions in a csv file from Fidelity.
I recently re-visited your bitbucket pages and downloaded the securitypriceload.mxt file. But I see no way to determine which version/build I downloaded, not even the date of the file (the downloaded files takes the date of the download) - except if I install this file and then I will see in the head the build number... I don't want to install a file when I am in the dark of what I install.
Thanks for your good work. I love the SPL and love MD, which I am using for over 10 years now.

Hi Fred
Unfortunately I can not change the name of the .mxt file. If you put
the build number as suggested the install fails. We have tried it in
the past. I will see if I can come up with something.
Regards
Mike

I thought that file naming restoration by MD may be a problem, that's why I also suggested this alternative: "... or if this is not possible because of MD, please show the build number next to the download link for the .mxt file ... .
BTW, should I upgrade to a later build than then 3009 I am currently using without problems?

Hi Fred
I am a great believer in if its not broken then don’t fix it.
Having said that there are number of reason if you are running Moneydance 2019 it could be worth updating Quote Loader. You are running Quote Loader 3009 which was released on March 3rd 2019. 3009 was part of a 3 element Quote Loader system. The 3 element Quote Loader is no longer supported, the last build of Quote Loader in this 3-element system was 3016. In getting to 3016 bugs were fixed the system enhanced.
Quote loader is now a single element system starting at build 3021 and is now at build 3024 and has been reviewed and signed by Infinite Kind (Moneydance). Moneydance users running the latest preview build will no longer get every intrusive warning that they are running a non-signed extension which could be unsafe.
If you want to update to Quote Loader 3024 please read the release notes first https://infinitekind.tenderapp.com/discussions/investments/4914-the...
Hope this helps.

Thanks Derek. I am not using Quote Loader. I am using Security Price Loader (which my input is about). Nobody has given me yet the current build number of the SPL, which I assume is different from the one for the Quote Loader.
Located in the USA, I prefer to go to Fidelity to download my portfolio I am holding there (exclusively and in US$), rather than going to Yahoo. This does away with having to identify my holdings on Yahoo, and currency issues.
I agree with don't fix what is not broken.

Hi Fred
The latest release of Security Price Loader is Build 3009, so you are up to date.
Although build 3009 has been reviewed and signed by Infinite Kind (Moneydance) it is not to be found under EXTENSIONS – MANAGE EXTENSIONS you still have to go to Mike Bays site to download it if for some reason you needed to reinstall.
Have Fun

Hi Derek and Happy Easter
thanks for providing the answer re current build number of SPL. You validate my question to Mike Bray re identifying in some way the build number near the download link.
