The 1st picture shows the menu of choices when I try to change the parent category. Savings is not shown, only TO investments which is under savings. There are several other categories under savings not shown as well. How do I fix this to show all categories?

Yvontag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/479148732019-12-12T23:46:12Z2019-12-12T23:46:13ZIssue assigning parent category

In studying this further, there are no income categories to choose from in the drop down, so am I even allowed to have a parent category other than expense for Brokerage fees? How did I get the TO investments expense category under the savings income category? Hmmm...

The data, including categories were imported from another program about 6 months ago. I am now just cleaning things up...maybe that was caused by the import? I don't have 2019.1 loaded anymore to go back and look to see if the multi-choice box gives the same result, I apologize for stating it was. Could you let me know for my own sanity the answer to the question about the parent and sub categories needing to both be the same type: expense or income?

Yvontag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/479148732019-12-13T00:12:48Z2019-12-13T00:12:48ZIssue assigning parent category

I'm a fellow user.

It sounds like you have worked out most of it.

Programs like Quicken allow you to put expense categories under Income Categories and vice versa. Moneydance honours this in the import - not much else it could do it has no idea where else to put it.There can also be confusion if an identically named category exists as both an Income and an expense item.

However when creating and editing categories the Moneydance software forces the position that an Income category can only be a sub category of an Income category and likewise with Expense categories.

I saw some of this when I migrated myself. I ended up correcting it in Moneydance and doing some restructuring to suit my requirements at the same time.

dwgtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/479148732019-12-14T01:14:08Z2019-12-14T01:14:11ZIssue assigning parent category

Thank you!

Yvon
