Can't open an Extension
I downloaded the new forecaster.mxt file, but when I go to
Extensions/Add... and choose From File, I get this error, and am
never able to select the Extension.
I think I saw from another thread that this is an issue with my Java, but I am on a mac, have run Software Updater and believe I'm on the most current Java version.
Also, my Java Preferences look like they are in the correct order,
Please help!

Hi Ziplock
What version of Moneydance are you running. I just installed the forecaster.mxt extension without any trouble on MD2010 build 730. If you are not running build 730 would you mind trying it and see if it resolves this problem. Here is the link:

Also, if you didn't rename it to forecaster.mxt, you have to do that as well. When downloaded it is named something like forecaster13.mxt

Thanks for your help, Ben. I am using the correct version. Here is a screenshot when I click on "About Moneydance"
Please help!

Ziplock,
If you are not using the most recent version (2010 build 735), please update to that version. You can download the update [here]http://moneydance.com/other). This update has resolved a few key issues our users have been experiencing, including several extension related bugs which seemed to take a few builds to get completely resolved. Please let me know if your issue persists and we will look into other solutions.
Please let me know if I can be of further assistance, and thank you for your interest in Moneydance.

Thanks Angie, I just upgraded to build 735 and am still having the same issue. I click Extensions/Add, select From File, and this error comes up.
Has anyone else had this problem?
Can you tell me what exactly my Java settings should be?
Thanks,
Ziplock

I'm still having this problem, do I need to start a new thread to get help with it?
Thanks,

Zip,
We are having difficulty re-creating this bug. Would you please let me know what OS you are using so we can try to pinpoint what is happening? It would also be helpful if you would try opening a new blank moneydance file and importing the extension into that. This would help us determine that there isn't some sort of oddity in your acct setup that is impacting the extension import. It's unlikely, but this has been a tough bug to chase down.
Thanks,

Hi,
I'm having the exact same trouble as ziplock, the null owner window java exception when attempting to add extension from file. I am using OSX 10.5.8, JVM 1.5.0-22

Hello all,
So I was playing around and found out that the generic unix download works just fine with adding an extension on my mac, the mac download does not. Both are freshly downloaded versions of build 735. I installed the built and installed the list accounts extension and it worked. Hope this helps.

Ok, thanks for this additional input. I have asked our developer Sean to look into this and I will get back to you all in a few days when I have more information. Please do let me know if anything changes

Angie, do you think this applies to the problem I'm having downloading the Find and Replace extension? http://help.infinitekind.com/discussions/bugs/49-find-and-replace-e...

kjw80303,
If I've already installed the mac version, can I install the UNIX dowload version to replace it. Does this version work this same on a macbook? What are the differences, and did you have any problems loading the UNIX version on your mac?
I really want to be able to add extensions, and I'm not sure that loading a UNIX version is a smart alternative...
Help me Angie-kanobee, you're my only hope!

I am also having this same problem. Unfortunately, I can not add anything new. Someone from support should go to this thread http://help.infinitekind.com/discussions/bugs/87-add-extension-from... and point them here, as that one was closed and the user was left hanging with no solution.

Okay, let's try this again! Build 738 has been released ( the latest preview version), and I have some hope that it will resolve this issue. I'm not entirely sure, but it's certainly worth a try. You can download the update here. Would someone please let me know if this works? If not, we'll keep working on it.
Let me know how it goes, I'm sorry it has taken so long to fix this issue.

I just downloaded release 738 Mac Full install and am still having the issue. This is on Mac OS 10.3.8 PPC Java 1.5.0_22 (32 bit).

I am having the exact same issue. I can add extensions when I chose "from the internet" but not when I select "from the file." I get the same error as others (Error:
java.lang.IllegalArgumentException :null owner window).
I am using OS X 10.5.8 and MD build 735 (which MD Updated tells me is the latest stable upgrade available).
I'd appreciate an update on where things stand on this issue.
Thank you.

yup - same problem here as well (can install extensions from "internet", but not from "file. Same error as above):
fingers crossed this is fixed soon! :-)

as an addition to my comment above .. i have now updated to build 740, and also followed the advice given here (java, on a mac):
http://help.infinitekind.com/discussions/bugs/49-find-and-replace-e...
neither of them worked. am still getting the error. dragging the java order around didn't even reflect in moneydance because it was still saying that i was on java 1.5....

I am having the same problem. I tried r741 and got the same result.
Java 1.5.0_22
OS 10.5.8

Regarding MD not recognizing the correct Java version I created ticket 2644 if you want to vote on this to move it up in the queue. http://moneydance.com/trac/ticket/2644
22 Posted by David Klaus on 20 Feb, 2010 07:46 PM
Ticket 2644 has nothing to do with this problem.

There is something of a problem with java selection and OS X 10.5. This version of Moneydance has a special startup script which should patch the issue for now. If you are NOT using OS X 10.5, please let me know, as it means this may be a different issue, or the problem may be more wide-spread than we currently believe it is.

I am trying to install the Security Price Entry extension mentioned in another help thread:
http://help.infinitekind.com/discussions/questions/515-setting-a-sp...
and am running into the error below as mentioned on several threads when attempting to Add Extension from File:
Error:
java.lang.IllegalArgumentException
:null owner window
I read through some more help threads and updated to the latest Preview version of Moneydance, ran Mac Software Update, and am still getting this error with my setup:
Mac OS X Version 10.5.8 Build 9L30
Java Version 1.5.0_22 from Apple, Inc.
Moneydance 2010r2 (743)

Same problem. The problem is that 'adding' from "File" on the Extensions / Add process brings up the Error of "java.lang.Illegal ...." message.

Please try installing the version of Moneydance linked to in post 24 and let me know if that helps with the issue. This version of Moneydance has a special startup script which should patch the issue for now.
