IRA Account Balance Graph.... $18,000,000 ERROR!!
The attached graph shows an obviously incorrect data point (don't I wish I had $18 Million.... even for just one month!).
The underlying security graphs and data don't show such an huge amount, nor does the transaction register, so I can't see how to fix this. My data file is also attached.
How do I correct it?

I have the same problem occurring in the Net Worth report (just for 1 month with one account.) Are these 2 issues connected? "Net Worth Report Doubles Cash Balance" http://help.infinitekind.com/discussions/md2010-beta/30-net-worth-r...

Hi
Please try build 734 and let me know if this resolves the issue. You can download 734 from this link:

Sincerely
Ben Spencer

Build 734 hasn't resolved my issue with the Net Worth report. Still getting astronomical numbers for 1 account for 1 month.
4 Posted by avp2 on 28 Dec, 2009 02:31 AM
Build 734 works for me for all accounts Networth graph and report. Also works on a single account (for month and other time periods), but only if I choose the first account in my list (happens to be a bank account); selecting other accounts lower on the list works for a report, but gives me a graph with only zero on the left scale and a straight zero line across whatever time period I chose.
Running mac OS X 10.4.11 with J2SE5.

jbnt: is the account you are having trouble with in a different currency than your base currency? If so, I would expect the error is probably a wildly incorrect exchange rate or security price in that currency (or securities) rate/price history.

Sean:
No, all currencies are US.
The link Ben provided yesterday leads to Build 735 (you're moving fast!). It generated an even worse graph... with values in the thousands, not 100s of thousands..... for all months of the year... not just an error for one month.... It's attached.
Thanks for looking into this!
Dick

Sean, Same here -- all currencies are in US $. I've narrowed my problem down to a specific date on which several transactions were made. I'm parsing these transactions to see if anything was unusual about them.

Any more suggestions?

Interesting to note that the $19m error only shows up when "add subgroups" is selected (appears for the Jan 09 period only) and also seems to depend on what graph grouping period is selected.
Must be some bogus data in the data file, which is not cleared by doing an archive of before Feb 09 and not keeping old transactions. Graph function also seems to have problems generating itself off of the archived file if group by week selected.
Could there have been some previously deleted securities in the Investment account that might still have data in the data file, i.e. deleted (so not shown in MD) but not actually zeroed out in data file.

I'm not aware of having selected "add subgroups".... but that's sort of old news.
The graph produced by Build 735 is quite different, but still totally wrong. See the attachment to my 12/28 message. It shows numbers in the thousands, when they should be in the 100s of thousands... and a general reduction of the portfolio over time instead of the nearly constant actual performance.
What can I do to avoid the issues you suggest may be at play and get a correct graph?

I could not see the bum data in your file so an archive was the only idea I came up with and it did not work. MD 2010's archive function does seem to have some bugs though, so it may do the trick in a newer build (when one comes out). BTW, I also used build 735.
I think the account value reduction would be right if you find a way to eliminate the large January error/s.

I am happy to report that we have found and resolved this bug. The next update to Moneydance, which we includes many other fixes and improvements, will be available very soon (hopefully as a preview release this week and possibly stable release next week).
Thanks,
Sean

I still have this problem in build 738. It occurs in just one month for one account in 2009 in the net worth report and graph.
Additional info: I just checked the net worth report against my register and noticed in the report that the number of shares and price do not match what is in my register. So, instead of showing 5,000 shares at $1 each for $5,000 (which is what is in my register), it's showing 5,000 shares @$10,000 each for $50,000,000. (BTW, it is very helpful to share and price amt in the report now.)

I'm sorry to report the same. My Investment Net Worth graph is nowhere correct. The scale is wrong (should be 100s of thousands, not 10s), and the slope is entirely wrong...
Screen shot is attached.

Looks like the Networth graph in 738 only picks up the cash amounts/value of "investment" type accounts; seems I remember this being a problem for other graphs and reports in the past. Bank, credit card and asset accounts seem to work correctly for me. I have no (fortunately) liabilities or loans to test, but assume they would work too.
Also, the graph auto-scaling does seem to need some work; for instance, seems to not put much scale above the max amount so that a fairly "flat" series of values will show up "hugging" the graph's top border. Be nice if the scaling could be user specified to some extent, like min/max (in percent of scale) and scale digits shown (powers of 10).

Hi dhuitema,
Can you try the following?
Thanks,
Sean
19 Posted by dhuitema on 26 Jan, 2010 05:38 PM
Sean:
Thanks, I will send the files after converting this thread to Private.
I am using build 738. (It's shown on Moneydance -> About, FWIW)
In checking the security you mentioned, I interpreted your request to mean get a graph for it, rather than the whole IRA portfolio. When I did, I discovered it was also wrong, but the numbers plotted appear to be the number of Shares, not the dollar values.
I memorized both graphs, as you suggested and will send the data file.
Thanks again for looking into this!!
Dick

Sean:
Here is the data file.
Please let me know if there's any other steps you'd like me to take!
Thanks again!
Dick
PS... I now realize that converting this to Private will prevent others from seeing my previous message, which was my intent, primarily because I discovered the graphs may represent the Number of Shares, rather than Balances. Sorry for the delay.

Hi All
Can you confirm if this problem is still present in build 743. If it is fixed I'd like to resolve this discussion, if not I will nudge the developers to prioritize the problem.
Ben

This error now appears fixed in 743. I had this same problem with my money market funds.

Ben:
Sorry for the delay in answering this. I stupidly did something to
lose my data files while I was performing a backup... so I've been
rebuilding the MD data file... and was about to see whether the graph
function works right, but find that the MD build available on your
site is Build 735, not 743.
How do I get Build 743?
Dick
PS I had hoped the attached file would restore my data files, but
it doesn't open for some reason. Can you tell why?

Dick,
Sorry we did not get back to you sooner, hopefully you figured out the link to the newest build, but if you haven't, here it is: http://moneydance.com/trac/wiki/Moneydance2010Beta
