Check numbers

I do most of my banking through EFTs but I write a few checks a month for expenses. When I download my banking information, and the checks clear, the check is listed as a separate transaction rather than simply clear the check number. I can delete these check transactions but it is a bit of a bother. Is there some setting that I am missing so that Moneydance will simply note that the check has cleared? Thank You.

    Hello,

    I'm slightly confused about these two transactions. Are they both from your bank downloads, where you have one transaction as an EFT, and another transaction as the check, but they are really the same transaction? Or are you first manually entering in your transaction, and later getting the check download from your bank? Or something else?

    Hi Ethan,

    The two transactions are different.  I download the EFTs and that works fine.  I also issue three to five checks a month for other transactions.  With these, I enter the information manually on the program and it is entered with the check number that I have printed.  When I download my information from the bank, in addition to the check that I have manually entered, a separate transaction appears in the downloaded data such as "Check 2598" .  The program does not go to the manually entered check (number 2598) and mark it as having cleared.   Sorry I was not clear on my initial note.  I have been simply deleting the duplicate transaction and marking the manually entered transaction as having cleared but I would think there is something I am missing.

    Thanks for the clarification. From what you describe, it sounds like you may not be going through the confirmation process after you download or import your data. You mentioning clearing the transactions, but this isn't the same as confirming them (unless we're just getting our terminology confused.) Downloaded transactions should have a blue dot next to them in the description field. Clicking on a transaction with a blue dot should open a right sidebar with confirmation options. If the transaction is similar to one you have already manually entered, one of the options should be to merge those transactions.
