Install on Linux by a linux newbie
I have tried to install by the directions in your base, but I don't have enough knowledge apparently. I have Ubuntu 9.10.

Hi Nancy
There a quite a number of different ways to install Moneydance on linux. How you install it depends on which file you downloaded.
Probably the simplist method is to download from the link called "Linux installer (x86 processor, includes Java)" this link can be found on the following page:
http://moneydance.com/other
Once you have downloaded the file you need to make it enable it to be run. Do this by right clicking on the file, select Properties from the menu, click on the permissions tab, and check the box that says "Allow executing file as program" see the first attached screenshot.
Then you can run the install script by double clicking on it. It will ask you wat you want to do when you double click on it, click the "Run" option.
The installer will run. leave all the options at their defaults.
The installer does not create a desktop shortcut icon automatically for you in ubuntu. You will have to do this your self. To do this right click on your desktop and select "Create Launcher" enter the name for the launcher as "Moneydance 2010" Click on the Browse button for the command option and browse to the moneydance folder in your home folder and select the file in that folder called "moneydance". See the second screenshot.

oops I posted before finishing what I was writing.
Here is the second screenshot.
Click the op button on the create launcher window and you will have an icon on your desktop that you can double click to run Moneydance.
Sincerely

I finally figured it out. I was clicking on the wrong Moneydance in the folder. It looked like a readme file not what I am used to.
It is up and running and I am trying to learn how to best use it.
Thanks,
Nancy
