How to browse to different file to open

I installed and registered Moneydance but it only opens the new file opened before registering. When I go to File\open it only offers the current file, how do I open my already existing file? It is the same version file. I just reinstalled my windows OS and had to reinstall everything else too. But moneydance won't let me open my existing file. If I go directly to the file on my harddrive and double click it, it will open but when I close and reopen moneydance it goes back to opening just the default file created before. What pain! how do I fix this?

    Kenneth,

    Could you please let me know what OS, version of Java, and version of Moneydance you are running? This information is available in the Help->Console Window menu item, and will help us to better diagnose the issue and provide instructions on fixing it.

    I am running Windows 8

    I deleted the default file and it prompts me to Import or Create but NOT open existing. The app is registered what is the issue here?

    Sorry for the confusion, would you mind trying out the latest version of 2012? The way it handles files is much improved from the initial release and will hopefully clear up your problem, if not let me know and we will get it sorted out.

    OK... Well that let me open the file but after working on the file for a couple of hours and closing the app. When I reopened Money dance it prompted me to open a file again, only this time my file was gone, Though a new folder was there the .md file is no where to be found. THIS IS NOT GOOD!!!!! I made sure no files were hidden but there is not file to select anymore. TELL ME my file is somewhere!!!!

    Also, I can't even seem to figure out how to open one of these archived from the last couple of days.

    Well I managed to open an Mdinyernal file that seemed to have all my data by renaming it with an md extension. It imported that file than that file dissapeared to. It is working but the data file it is referring to is a mystery. Why does it have to be so convoluted? How do I browse to the data file to open it? I cant have more tjan one data file bevause i can never find the previous one.

    Moneydance 2012 for Windows keeps the Data located in a folder called:
    \Users\yourusername.moneydance\Documents\"somename".moneydance

    The name of the Data file within the "somename".moneydance folder is called "somename".mdinternal.

    You should not have to be renaming "somename".mdinternal to "somename".md for Moneydance 2012 to open it.

    The next time that you are in Moneydance, please pull up Help - Console Window, choose "Copy to Clipboard" and paste the output of the Console Window in you next reply.

    Seeing as my original file I was working on disappeared and the folder Home12 that it created did not have a file I could select to open that is why I had to rename the Root.mdinternal file that was there. I renamed it roo - copy.md and it opened and that file disappeared and created the below file. How do I move these files to another drive. I keep all my data on my D: and backup that drive. This C drive is not backed up.

    Hi Kenneth,

    To move you're data set(s), all you have to do is open Moneydance, then go to Help -> Show Documents Folder, then close Moneydance, then in the file manager window that Moneydance opened move your data set(s) the where you want them to be, then use File -> Open -> Open Other or Open Other on the Welcome screen and locate and open the data set from where you moved it to.

    More bad news. This update runs painfully slow when connected to over a network. It was running great when connected over the network prior to this update.

    We noticed that too, it has to do with whether the saving is happening in the 'foreground' or 'background' we are working on a fix right now.
