Which is the Sync Master?
Hi All, This is not really a problem 'cos everything works fine!
I've been reading about people with sync problems.
A year ago I had MD synced on my desktop & my laptop using the dropbox folder method.
Since then I have changed both machines at different times & synced MD with no thought about which of the new machines is the master. Everything is still working well. The desktop I use daily the laptop now & again. The majority of my work happens on the desktop.
How can I tell which is the MD master now & does it matter?
TIA

I'm a fellow user.
Use the Menu Command; File → Syncing
If you find on al machine the Syncing method says Don't Sync and you cannot change it is means that the system is a secondary system.
If when you was setting up each new system if you used the Menu Command --> File and then selected Open Synced File then you created a secondary system. I suspect you did that in each case.
The consequences are not completely clear, we do know you cannot turn a system into a master system without some extra steps. The master system determines the syncing method used, as that is the first system defined. So to change method you have to turn another system into a master and go from there.
I do not know if anyone outside of TiK knows if a master system has any other function with the syncing process.

Hi dwg
Thanks for your interest & response.
It seems, using your test, that both of my systems are masters!
Do you have any idea about whether that is good, bad or doesn't matter?
TIA

The only way I could see of getting the result of two masters would be to physically take a copy of the Moneydance data set (not a Moneydance backup) and copy it between the systems.
It is not a standard configuration, whether it is good, bad or indifferent I could not say, i would hazard a guess that it would not fall into the good category.

Hi dwg
I'm sure that you are right, that's what I did. I've now reverted my laptop to secondary with my desktop as master.
Thanks again for all of you help.
Regards
Ian
