Can't load a backup I exported only this morning

We're having dreadful trouble recovering from a crash last week and we finally got one machine correct this morning only to find that when we switched on the other machine it was completely wrong. Fortunately I had backed up before switching on the second machine but now I'm trying to load that back up and it just says "Error unknown file type"!

Help!!

    Hello,

    Can you please confirm which version of Moneydance you were using, and how you created the backup file? If you created it manually through File -> Export Backup, it looks like it may have just lost its .moneydancearchive extension at the end of the file name, preventing the program from recognizing it.

    Thanks for your prompt reply. We were using version 2019.3 (1880). So it would be worth just adding the .moneydancearchive to the name?

    Yes add the .moneydancearchive to the name. it is this that indicates to Moneydance that the file should be a Moneydance backup
