What is the software actually doing, is it letting you enter data but then not saving it? or? Are you receiving any error messages if so what are they.

Perhaps you can post your error log, that will tell us the environment and perhaps provide some further information.

If you're using Mac OS, it should be located at one of these locations within your Home folder:

~/Library/Containers/com.infinitekind.MoneydanceOSX/Data/Library/Application Support/Moneydance/errlog.txt

or:

~/Library/Application Support/Moneydance/errlog.txt

If you have any trouble finding your Home Library folder you can open Finder and hold down the option key while selecting the Go menu and the Library folder option should occur or you can open Finder and select Go -> Go to Folder and copy and paste in the following:

~/Library

This should pull up your local Library folder.

If you're using Windows, it should be located under your login directory at:

C:\Users(yourusername).moneydance\errlog.txt

or

C:\Documents and Settings(yourusername).moneydance\errlog.txt

Depending on your version of Windows

If you're using Linux it should be located in your home folder at:
~/.moneydance/errlog.txt

dwgtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/484911622020-07-27T23:26:44Z2020-07-27T23:26:45ZSudden malfunction

Dear dwg,
thanks for your comments. I will try your suggestion, but in the meantime, I tried reloading the upgrade again and found this error message. One major thing that jumps out is that your error log shows your current data file to be located at C:\Users\drmik.moneydance\Documents\mikenJody2.moneydance. However, the error from that screenshot seems to say that the program is trying to install itself under the file path for the "mls.MikesNewToy" username, not "drmik." Usually one doesn't have read and write permissions to a different usernames' files on your computer, although this can be overridden. Are you perhaps signing into your computer with one username and trying to open a the program and your data file located in a different user's folder? That would potentially account for these permission errors, and why you can't install or save anything.

That comes pretty close to confirming that the issue was that the program and your data file are located in that other username's folder. In general the sort of thing you encountered is to be expected in that situation. As to why it just seemed to start now, I can't say. It could be that you hadn't tried to run the program from that other username before, Windows performed some kind of routine maintenance to make sure your file permissions were 'correct,' or a number of other possibilities. If you are using multiple usernames on your system, similar things may start happening for your other data as well, if they are not stored in a shared location that all of the usernames have read and write privileges.

Please let me know if I can be of further assistance,
