It looks like your system it telling us that you have no access to some of the files you need such as the the MD preferences (e.g. config.dict) and the trunk data file. We should get that straightened out first then work on the "cleared" icons.

First save a backup from within MD of your data. Make sure this file is somewhere safe!

Can you open the folder Library/Containers/com.infinitekind.MoneydanceOSX/Data/Documents
Use the option key and the "GO" menu to open Library.

If so can you do a "Get Info" on the File DG2020.moneydance? Do you ("me") have read and write permissions to that file? If not can you set them to have read/write permissions to that file and all the enclosed files. This is your data set and you should have complete access. In fact you should have complete access to every file within the Library folder.

sthtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/485488152020-08-14T17:41:42Z2020-08-14T17:41:43ZBIG problems with MD 2020 (1919)

Hi

I didn’t move files lately. In meantime, I continue to use MD 2019.3 (1881) successfully

The most disturbing is that I can’t « quit « except with "force quit » so I can’t save anything

I look in " Library/Containers/com.infinitekind.MoneydanceOSX/Data/Documents » and I (me) have the permissions to write and read.

BTW, I have another file and both have the same behaviour.

Regards

I was more interested in the files in that directory than the folder itself for access. If you look at those error messages, there are two that are listed:

This is your data file or one of them:
Library/Containers/com.infinitekind.MoneydanceOSX/Data/Documents/DG2020.moneydance/safe/tiksyn/trunk_sv
To see this file you may have to ask the Finder to "Show Bundle Contents" on the DG2020.moneydance file to look inside at the bundled trunk_sv file. This file is either missing of no permissions. Both are bad.

The other file with errors is in Library/Containers/com.infinitekind.MoneydanceOSX/Data/Library/Application Support/Moneydance/config.dict
This is the general preferences file and should be common to all data files. Please check that this and any other files belong to you and have read/write permissions.

Possibly the older version is just not showing errors but ignoring them?

My other suggestion that may be easier is to do a clean erase of those folder and preserve only your data file. You will need to reset any preferences and re-install any extensions but it might be a solution if there are missing files or incorrect permissions. I will write out a procedure if you want.

sthtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/485488152020-08-15T16:22:34Z2020-08-15T16:22:34ZBIG problems with MD 2020 (1919)

Hello

I tried everything you suggest and I observed a detail.

The name of Money dance 2019 (1881) was Moneydance 2 !!!

If I took of the « 2 » I have the save problem with the 2019 version version

But If I put « 2 » at the MD version 2020, money dance.app to moneydande2.app everything work fine: HOURRA

I don’t remember why the app was name with a « 2 »

Again, thank you for your precious collaboration and excuse me for the orthography. I’m a french speaking people.

Regards

I have no idea what the 2 at the end of the app name does to you. I would worry that it is using a different folder for preferences or support files? Having two different versions of MD on a system can be a problem unless the applications are isolated in two different user accounts.

I might suggest copying and backing up your data files. Deleting all copies of the MD app you can fine. Removing the Library/com.infinitekind.com/ directory.
Downloading a fresh copy of MD 2020.0 1921 and installing in your /Applications folder.

Then open MD and quit to create your folders. Move your copy of the MD data file to Library/Containers/com.infinitekind.MoneydanceOSX/Data/Documents which now should exist again. Restart MD and your data file(s) should be on the Welcome Screen.

And your english is fine. Much better than my attempts at french. I don't think that much of the 4 years of first year french I took 50 years ago remain. I did try using it once on a trip through France a long time ago, but everyone kept replying to me in German my accent was so bad!

sthtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/485488152020-08-16T16:32:53Z2020-08-16T16:32:55ZBIG problems with MD 2020 (1919)

Hi

I have done everything you suggested, but the result is the same: black squares instead of icons and impossible to quit normally

Everything become normal again if I change Moneydance to Moneydance2 . Very curious !!

BTW, I’ m not sure of the location of Library/com.infinitekind.com/ directory.???

Is it all off this

After COPYING (not moving) your two data files DG2020.moneydance and Placements GGL2020.moneydance. Copying them will make sure that you have ownership rights to all the sub files. And should not have errors during the copy.

The worry I had is that the config.dict file which has all the preferences seems not to be readable/writeable by the program. This is a serious error.

Try posting your errlog.txt file.
Library/Containers/com.infinitekind.MoneydanceOSX/Data/Library/Application Support/Moneydance/errlog.txt

sthtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/485488152020-08-17T00:24:43Z2020-08-17T00:24:46ZBIG problems with MD 2020 (1919)

Do you mean...
