In fact, my graphs are terribly different. In my case, it seems to relate to the time that I added a foreign currency with a very high exchange rate (1300:1). The main net worth graph is correct, the net worth number is correct, but the summary net worth graph is totally wonky. See attached PDF.

Kevintag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/486420222020-10-19T09:57:39Z2020-10-19T09:57:40ZNet Worth Summary Plot doesn't match Net Worth Graph

PS. 1/ wherever there is an open to choose balance or current balance, have you chosen the same option (ie balance now vs balance future)?
2/ are the dates on each report set the same? All dates vs a date?
3/ in your securities’ price history, is the current price set to the same as the last dated price in the history?

It seems to be around when I added a currency with a large exchange rate (1300:1) to my holdings.

Do have and suggestions on how I could test or filter? To be hones, it's just the net worth graph on the status page that's wrong: an annoyance but doesn't otherwise affect functionality.

Kevintag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/486420222020-10-21T06:56:14Z2020-10-21T06:56:14ZNet Worth Summary Plot doesn't match Net Worth Graph

If you click the number shown for net worth on the summary screen it expands into a net worth report that shows the detail.

Perhaps run the report and graph for a subsection of accounts until you find the one that’s different?

I resolved it by going to the Summary page and clicking on the drop down menu next to Net Worth at the side of the graph and altering it to All Dates.

All figures are now correct.

If I have misinterpretted the problem - my apologies.

peter3tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/486420222020-10-21T19:55:59Z2020-10-21T19:55:59ZNet Worth Summary Plot doesn't match Net Worth Graph

Issue: summary plot is incorrect for 'this month' and for 'this year' (it does look about right for 'all dates')

Thanks everyone for their replies regarding the annoyingly incorrect summary net worth graph.

I can't really debug it much because the reports&graphs are always correct, and I can't "zoom in" on the summary page net worth graph to see where exactly it diverges. I wonder why the summary page net worth graph is different at all... shouldn't it be using the same code?

But just for fun, here are two more screen shots, each for the "all dates" setting.

Best,
Kevin

Kevintag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/486420222020-10-23T13:48:31Z2020-10-23T13:48:31ZNet Worth Summary Plot doesn't match Net Worth Graph

The Networth reports and graphs are different than the "summary" line at the top of the page. All Networth reports and graphs have an "as of" date. It is part of the configuration of the report and/or graph. MD uses the historical price that is closest to but before or the same as the "as of date". (thus for a plot as of 10/23 it would use the HISTORICAL value of 10/23, 10/22 or earlier which ever exists).

The "summary" is somewhat different and uses the "CURRENT" value. If you notice in the historical security (or currency) prices there is a different box for the "current price" and the history price which may or may not have that day's price in it. In addition the security prices may have prices with incorrect dates in the future that would also cause this issue.

Thus the two plots/reports are for different things and unless all your security prices are consistent you will get a difference.

You can set the prices in the left hand menu to be current, cleared, or all values in the preferences and then compare the left hand menu to a net worth report to find the account with the variation. Then drill down through the securities in that account to find the variation.

sth
