I have an Alphavantage API Key entered and have tried the 'Quotes and Exchange Rates Settings' method and also the 'Quote Uploader' extension.

Hi Mark

There are two methods within Moneydance for obtaining security prices and exchange rates automatically.

If the Quote and exchange rate updater does not work well for you try the extension Quote Loader under EXTENSIONS – MANAGE EXTENSION

I ran a test on your Security and Quote Loader returned Current as well as historical data, see screen shot.

For information see post 63 at

Download the PDF attached to posts 63 and have a read.

To get an overview take a look at the YouTube videos by using the links on page 1 and 2 of the PDF.

Let us know how you get on or if you need help just post.

Hope this helps.

derekkent23tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/486568732020-09-23T14:15:41Z2020-09-23T14:15:42ZDownloading quote history

Hi Derek

Can you confirm that if you 'Create the Prices CSV' that the history is contained in the CSV? Mine only shows one row for today. The interface shows the same for me with the New Price in Green.

Thanks

Hi Mark

Although you can save the history data returned to it associated security price history window only the current data can be exported using Quote Loader CREATE PRICES CSV feature.

If you want to export price history data to a CSV file once obtained using Quote Loader use the Moneydance Report SECURITY PRICE HISTORY.

Note Yahoo HD (Historical Data) can retrieve data going back about 1 years, FT HD about 28 days, if available. “++” after the Trade Date denotes history has been retrieved. If you want to use Yahoo HD as the source you would need to change the ticker symbol to VWRL and set EXCH MOD to LSE (London Stock Exchange).

Hope this helps.

derekkent23tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/486568732020-09-23T15:27:24Z2020-09-23T15:28:33ZDownloading quote history

Hi Derek, you’ve reminded me about the Exch Mod field - thanks.

It seems to work by default without anything set there for FT HD. I found the reason why my history wasn’t downloading was because I had first saved todays quote using the ‘FD’ Source. The 'Retrieve missed prices' function won’t work if today’s price is populated in the security price history. Removing today’s price then got me the ++ on the end of the trade date and it downloaded the missing prices.

In fact It appears that ‘Retrieve missed prices’ only works from today backwards and stops filling in missing prices when a price is hit. So if I had say last Friday’s price (and not this week prices), but not last Thursday’s price then Thursday won’t get downloaded unless I delete all prices from last Friday until today. So it doesn’t retrieve all missing prices, only those it finds according to this rule. Which is why I’ve had such trouble I think!

Moving on to trying this with Yahoo HD, I changed the ticker to VWRL and Exch Mod set to LSE and deleted the prices for the last week including today and no history is getting downloaded. This would be a better source for me because I would like to update the accounts once per month and that means I can easily miss some prices from the beginning of the month using FT HD.

Despite getting the ++ in the Trade Date column I can see only today’s price has been added to the Security History. I’ve attached screenshots below.

Edit: I did the tick of the box and click 'Save Selected Values'

marktag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/486568732020-09-23T15:59:22Z2020-09-23T15:59:22ZDownloading quote history

I am not support staff, just a user.
Hi Mark

You are correct on how the feature RETRIEVE MISSED PRICES works.
This is explained under the heading RETRIEVING HISTORICAL DATA on page 7 of my PDF to which I provided you with a link.

Looking at your second screen shot, Yahoo HD has not returned prices for the 21/09/2020 or 22/09/2020

Checking the source, Yahoo, data for the same two dates are missing, so nothing for Quote Loader to capture. See https://uk.finance.yahoo.com/quote/VWRL.L/history?p=VWRL.L

Nothing Quote Loader can do about that.

Hope this helps.

derekkent23tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/486568732020-09-23T22:17:28Z2020-09-23T22:17:32ZDownloading quote history

Very helpful, thanks Derek. It's working as expected now that I'm not hitting gaps in the source data.

Great documentation, cheers!

marktag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/486568732020-09-24T08:52:05Z2020-09-24T08:52:05ZDownloading quote history

I am not support staff, just a user.
