I opened the 3030 version, selected Tools / Categories, and a new tab titled “Edit Categories” is created. Then when I click “New” at the bottom of the window, I get the prompt “Please select the type of account”. The Expense option is already selected and the little dot to the left of Expenses flashes rapidly. And the app freezes. Then I have to Force Quit Moneydance.

So, no change when using the 3030 version.

sswanstag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/489145362020-12-18T20:02:33Z2020-12-18T20:02:35Znew category

I just noticed something else. At first it looked like a new tab was created with no label. Then later, the third tab is labeled “New Category”, but the app is still frozen.

sswanstag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/489145362020-12-18T20:15:29Z2020-12-18T20:15:29Znew category

I'm a fellow user.

If you are using Big Sur have you changed the setting in the System Preferences, General section, from "Prefer tabs [always] when opening documents" to "never" or "in full screen"

dwgtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/489145362020-12-19T16:07:35Z2020-12-19T16:07:37Znew category

Thanks dwg. I misread your response. My bad.

I changed the General/Prefer Tabs to never, and Moneydance allowed me to put in a new income category.

I much prefer tabs, so I'll change my preference back to always for normal use. Hopefully this won't be necessary in future versions of Moneydance.

Thanks again!

sswanstag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/489145362021-01-15T12:58:26Z2021-01-15T12:58:28Znew category

Every time I try to use Tools to change an account, the program freezes. And that's because I forgot to change my Mac preferences General/Prefer Tabs from always to never. Then I change it back to always after I quit Moneydance.

Is a fix to this bug in Moneydance on the to-do list? It's getting very annoying.

sswanstag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/489145362021-01-17T12:33:48Z2021-01-17T12:33:50Znew category

I see now that a fix is under consideration. I hadn't seen this on the right side of the window:
