The only free upgrade for Moneydance 2014 was to Moneydance 2015, and that is assuming you purchased the software directly from the company and not through a third party. A Moneydance 2014 licence is not valid for any later release.

Moneydance 2014 can be downloaded from:

https://infinitekind.com/download_2014

Be aware that if you upgrade to Moneydance 2015 or later from @014 or earlier the file format would have changed so it will be necessary to go back to the backup that was created by the upgrade installation.

The numbers 12.3 and 12.5 in themselves do not mean anything to me in relation to Moneydance 2014. Some people do use shorthand like that when they were referring to releases in Moneydance 2012.

dwgtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/489696422021-01-13T21:30:18Z2021-01-13T21:30:19ZUpgrade failed

Yes, I was trying to download the 2015. I guess that the version I have/had is 2014.3 and I was trying to upgrade to 2014.5? Anyway, I found the old Moneydance version in my applications along with the demo. But I can't get the old version to show my data. It just shows the Moneydance pulldown menu. How can I get the data back on the old version?
Thanks for helping.
I have taken these instructions and tried to make them a little more encompassing in terms of the version references.

If you'd like to revert to a pre Moneydance 2015 version that you have upgraded from you can follow these instructions, these will restore your data to the point just before you upgraded hence any transactions entered since you upgraded will be lost, there is no avoiding this as the file structures are completely different.

When you upgrade from a pre Moneydance 2015 release to a later version Moneydance create an archive file of your data set old data set before updating the structures, we will be restoring the data set at that specific point in time.

In Moneydance take the menu option Help -> Show Documents Folder. This should open up a browser window.

Once that folder opens, create a new folder named:

2015 Backup

and drag your yourfilename.moneydance data set into that new folder.

After that, go to Help -> Show Archive Folder in Moneydance and copy the yourfilename.moneydance.zip file to the Documents folder you opened earlier. Then, unzip the zip file that you moved to extract your original data set. Please note that as stated earlier this data set will not have any information that you've added since using the later Moneydance version.

After that, close and remove your Moneydance 2015 application and download the older version of Moneydance from:

https://infinitekind.com/previous-versions-of-moneydance

Install the downloaded version and open Moneydance. Your data should then open up again.

If it doesn't it may mean that your configuration file has been changed to the point where the older Moneydance release cannot use it, thus try resetting your configuration and see if you can open Moneydance then. To do this, you have to rename your config.dict file. If you're using Mac OS, then it should be located at one of these locations:

~/Library/Containers/com.infinitekind.MoneydanceOSX/Data/Library/Application Support/Moneydance/config.dict

or:

~/Library/Application Support/Moneydance/config.dict

You can open Finder and select Go -> Go to Folder again and enter those locations individually to bring up those folders.

If you're using Windows, it should be located under your login directory at:

C:\Users(yourusername).moneydance\config.dict

or

C:\Documents and Settings(yourusername).moneydance\config.dict

Depending on your version of Windows

If you're using Linux it should be located in your home folder at:

~/.moneydance/config.dict

Once you've found your config.dict file, close Moneydance and rename it (to something like config-old.dict, for example), then open Moneydance again and it will appear as though you've just installed Moneydance for the first time, so you'll have to re-enter your license key and may have to locate and open your data set again. If you run into any problems, you can simply close Moneydance and rename the config-old.dict file back to config.dict and open Moneydance again to restore your original settings.

You may also need to remove the “fmodules” directory, located in the same directory as your config.dict file, if you installed or updated to any of the Moneydance 2015 or later extensions.

dwgtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/489696422021-01-13T21:47:42Z2021-01-13T21:47:42ZUpgrade failed

Sorry for being so dense, but if I purchase the demo/upgrade would it resolve all the issues? Again thanks for your help

I do not know if in running 2015 you encountered any problems other than the licensing issue and even if that is the only issue it would be likely because you do not have a MD2014 license but possibly a 2012 license.

The only license that you can purchase today is for Moneydance 2021

You are using a MAC and unless you are using a dated version of MacOS I would expect MD2014 to be problematic because of changes Apple have made to the OS over the years. Most recent releases - i.e. over the last few years - have necessitated changes being made to Moneydance to accommodate changes that Apple have made.

dwgtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/489696422021-01-13T22:25:51Z2021-01-13T22:25:52ZUpgrade failed

I have the license for the 2014 version. My OS is Mojave 10.14.6. The initial issue was that moneydance was stuck on a single category when generating a report. I looked to find a solution on line and came across the upgrade and decided to try it. For some reason instead on the upgrade it downloaded the new demo. That's how it started. A moment ago I checked the price of the new Moneydance upgrade $25 so if that works I will just purchase the upgrade. Thanks.
There were a lot of changes over the 5 years both to the OS, MD and the Java that is used to program MD. There were a lot of mouse problems with older software and newer Macs. The reports feature has been revamped a couple of times since then.

The newest release (at half price as you found out) is probably a good deal. It should just update your file but you may have to specifically tell it to open your data file if MD has lost track of it.
