Opening file on new computer
Just installed Moneydance V. 2021on new Macbook laptop. Cannot download file from dropbox. When I select to allow Dropbox I get a VERY long authorization code to enter into MD. Able to copy code but not paste so I've tried to enter manually several times but no success. Advice? File was originally set up from my home computer, an IMac running same version of MD

Thanks. That at least worked for pasting. Don't know why I couldn't from trackpad. Unfortunately couldn't find file on Dropbox. Wonder if I never set up file syncing properly

Out of interest are you using Dropbox Connection?
If you’re stuck you could try installing Dropbox and then when it’s sync’d select Dropbox folders instead.. it might bypass your issue.

To see if you have any data
Finder
Dropbox
Cmd shift . (That’s a dot) to view hidden files
Find .moneydancesync and double click
Do you have folders with looooong numbers? These are MD sync datasets

You should not use syncing to move a data file to a new main computer. There is a difference between a primary data set and a secondary synchronized data set.
Copy your main datafile from the primary computer to the new primary computer.

Been trying to open sync file with Dropbox connection but just get the message no syncable files found. Don't have any other Dropbox files and won't have access to my primary computer for a few months so probably out of luck

One more question. Rather than sync with Dropbox, I tried opening the .qif file that was in iCloud but just got Java null error message. Any way to open that backup file?

It is a bug in the Welcome screen in build 2006, fixed in the preview builds, but can be worked around by first creating a new data set then importing the file.
However a QIF file is NOT a backup, a QIF file only contains raw transactions nothing more.

That worked fine, thanks. Unfortunately MD still in demo mode and would not let me register with previously purchased license key!

License keys are version specific. When you purchase directly from The Infinite Kind your key will be valid for the version it was purchased for and the next major release, beyond that you can purchase an upgrade at a 50% discount.
