Up until Catalina, I never had a problem upgrading my OS and have Moneydance 2010 work. With Catalina, I had to modify the Java file in order for Moneydance 2010 to open my data file. I'm concerned about Big Sur and not being able to open MoneyDance at all. So, I downloaded V2021 and as instructed tried to convert over a copy of my datafile. I'm getting the following error message:
Error reading file: java.lang.NullPointerException.

Is there any way to convert my file?

    I'm a fellow user.

It's a bug in the welcome screen, easiest thing to do is to upgrade to the Preview version that solves this and some Mac specific issues as well.

I would count you lucky to get an old version of Moneydance working in Catalina, the minimum version specified was one of the later 2017 releases.

I did use the preview version. That’s where I’m getting the error message.

I removed the download I originally did, and downloaded this newer version from your url and it worked! Thank you so very much!

I would have upgraded a long, long, long, long time ago, but I was waiting to have the splits have the option of single line vs double line. They’ve been promising it *for years* and never came through.

When I upgraded to Catalina, the file would not open. I was panic stricken!! But there was a web site from a company that has nothing to do with finance who used a lot of legacy java-based programs and they devised a script to modify the legacy Java installation to get these programs to work. And indeed it did and my MoneyDance file opened using V2010 in Catalina.

But this panicked me so that when Big Sur arrived, I seriously thought I need to upgrade but in 2020 infinitekind was saying *don’t* upgrade to Big Sur because Moneydance was not compatible. But now there has been two upgrades to Big Sur, other programs I need are now compatible and so I was thinking it’s time to modernize.

I just wish I had the pingleline splits!
