Display Bug on Summary Page

Using Moneydance 2021 for Mac. OS is Big Sur. Often (but not every time) I open Moneydance, the summary display goes a little wonky and always with my credit card accounts, never with any other objects on that screen. See attachment for a screen shot. The cards are listed but the alignment is off. Collapsing and re-expanding the display fixes it.

    Hi Joshua,

Thanks for contacting to Moneydance support team, and bring this to our attention.

May I ask which Moneydance version and build number does it happen?
To check your Moneydance version and build details, please select Help --> About Moneydance (or Moneydance menu: Help--> About Moneydance on Mac).

If you happen to be using the below Moneydance 2021.1 (build 3034), wondering if could you try to update to the latest Moneydance 2021.1 (build 3034) here? And see if this issue could be resolved?

As you've mentioned that you're currently running on macOS Big Sur, please ensure that you've changed your Mac settings.

Under the Mac System Preferences (not Moneydance settings), General section, the option "Prefer tabs [always] when opening documents" should be changed from "always" to never or "in full screen" option.

Hope this information helps. Please do keep us updated with the progress and let us know again if you need further assistance or have any other queries. Thank you.

    Hi, Melissa:

I am using Moneydance 2021, build 2006. I just clicked the link for the update and it says it’s a beta; I’d want to know about any known issues with a beta version before installing. I’ve confirmed that my option for “prefer tabs when opening documents” is set to “in full screen.”

    Thanks,

    Josh

    Hi Josh,

There have not been any known issues with the beta version but with several additional fixes that have been found in Moneydance 2021 (build 2006), including compatibility of Moneydance with MacOS Big Sur.

Perhaps, you could have a read on this changelog for more details regarding the improvements.

Hope this helps. Please do keep us updated with the progress and let us know again if you need further assistance or have any other queries. Thank you.

    Hi, Melissa:

I installed the beta on Saturday and so far it looks as if that resolved the issue. I guess it was related to compatibility with Big Sur. And as you said, I’ve seen no other issues with the beta but if I do, I’ll report them. Thanks for your help.

    Josh

    Hi, Melissa:

Looks like the beta does not fix the issue after all. It just happened again.

    Thanks,

    Josh

    Hi Josh,

Wondering could you send us a screenshot of what you're seeing? You can read instructions for taking a screenshot here:
    https://www.take-a-screenshot.org/mac.html

Also, would you be able to send us a copy of your Moneydance error logs, the logs should include information on what might be causing an issue.

The logs are saved on your computer as an errlog.txt file. Using Mac OS X, the logs should be located at one of these locations within your Home folder:

    ~/Library/Containers/com.infinitekind.MoneydanceOSX/Data/Library/Application Support/Moneydance/errlog.txt

    or:

    ~/Library/Application Support/Moneydance/errlog.txt

If you have any trouble finding your Home Library folder, open Finder and select Go --> Go to Folder, then copy and paste in exactly the following:

    ~/Library

This will pull up your local Library folder and you can then navigate to the locations above to find the logs.

Looking forward to hearing from you and assisting you further. Thank you.

I attached a screenshot when I opened the ticket; let me know if you need another one. It doesn’t happen every day so I might not be able to get you another one right away. I’ve attached the error log.

    Thanks,

    Josh

    I'm a fellow user.

The extension Debt Insights has been problematic for quite some time, many of the problems have been reported and this included it locking up Moneydance when attempted some selections. It also appears to select its own fonts and sizes so it is not consistent with the rest of the display

Hence I would be suspicious of this extension, it may be worthwhile to disable or remove it and see if the problem persists.

Interesting, thanks for that info. I hadn’t checked my extensions and there were a few installed that I don’t use or need. I’ve removed Debt Insights for now and we'll see what happens. I’ve also removed Quotes and Exchange Rates and Extra Investment Reports since I don’t really need them.

It’s now been a couple of weeks since I removed the extensions and the issue has not recurred, so I guess that was it. Thanks, dwg, for the suggestion.
