Too many backups
I upgraded to Moneydance 2021 on my MacBook Pro running macOS Big Sur a few months ago. In Moneydance preferences - Backups, I have checked Save Backup Daily and have set it to Keep no more than 2 backup files. But it is keeping an apparently unlimited number of backup files. Every so often I manually delete the older ".moneyarchive" files but it's rather tedious to need to do that.
How can I get it to actually keep no more than 2 backup files?

I'm a fellow user.
That is an interesting one, I have never heard of of this setting being ignored before.
The only thing I can think of is that there is something wrong with the config.dict file which is where this setting is stored, along with your other preferences.
To test this I would rename this file with Moneydance closed and test the operation over a few days.
With Mac OS, it should be located at one of these locations within your Home folder:
~/Library/Containers/com.infinitekind.MoneydanceOSX/Data/Library/Application Support/Moneydance/config.dict
or:
~/Library/Application Support/Moneydance/config.dict
If you have any trouble finding your Home Library folder you can open Finder and hold down the option key while selecting the Go menu and the Library folder option should occur or you can open Finder and select Go -> Go to Folder and copy and paste in the following:
~/Library
This should pull up your local Library folder.
Once you've found your config.dict file, close Moneydance and rename it (to something like config-org.dict, for example), then open Moneydance again and it will appear as though you've just installed Moneydance for the first time and may have to locate and open your data set again.
If backup works as expected you can continue using the new configuration file by while viewing your data file, choose Help --> Register Moneydance and input your license key.
If you run into any problems, you can simply close Moneydance and rename config-org.dict file back to config.dict and open Moneydance again to restore your original settings.
Mostly if you have a problem with config.dict the easiest way is to just let the software create a new one, with few exceptions it can be difficult to work out what the problem is in the file.
