It looks like there are Dropbox API calls every two seconds continuously? That seems like a lot. Is that expected? Should I regenerate my Dropbox backup somehow to make that better?

I prefer dropbox folders rather than dropbox connection. Which do you have?

I've done that for now and am just using
rclone
nightly to back up the Moneydance file and saving all the bandwidth. I guess I'm still curious if all this network activity is really necessary with the Dropbox connection turned on, but this is okay for my use case.

Lucastag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/491294332021-04-07T22:28:18Z2021-04-07T22:28:18Zunexplained network traffic

I'm a fellow user.

Dropbox syncing is not intended as a backup mechanism. It is a syncing mechanism for keeping multiple computer systems up to data as far as Moneydance data is concerned.

As such even if you have not made any updates the software must routinely poll the shared location in order to see if another user on another machine has made data updates that the local Moneydance instance needs to download and apply.

dwgtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/491294332021-04-08T15:05:38Z2021-04-08T15:05:41Zunexplained network traffic

Indeed, I'm just now figuring that out. It seems I turned this on (in 2017 or so?) without understanding that fully. Better late than never, I suppose.

There are ways to write APIs that can notify about changes much more efficiently, but it appears Dropbox doesn't have one of those APIs. Pity. Thanks for your help.

Lucas
