Untrusted Server Certificate Chain issue with Wells Fargo
I am using MD 2008r3 (631) and just recently started to get this
message:
moneydance error Error: javax.net.ssl.SSLHandshakeException:
java.security.cert.CertificateException: Untrusted Server
Certificate Chain
I've been using MD with WellsFargo for well over a year, and not sure what changed. I was able to do my last connection in early January. Is there any help for this?

This same error has cropped up for me. Exactly. Except that I have been using MD with WF for almost three years. Suddenly, its broken, and Wells Fargo says they have no idea what I'm talking about.

Usually this means the bank/investment renewed their SSL certificate, and the new one is signed with a new certificate authority certificate, which MD doesn't know about. Certificates might be good only for a year.
Since you are using MD2008, you should try the latest MD2010r2, because they did add new certificate(s).
I did a quick check on Wells Fargo, and I didn't see this issue, but I'm not sure I was talking to the right server (did your error message include a server name?)
Somewhere in WF there is someone who understands SSL certificate chains, and maybe even knows the date they renewed and starting using the new certificate. But I'm not surprised whoever you talked to had no clue.

Tim, glad to know I'm not along in this, and somewhat encouraging to hear that this may be related to some goofy change from the bank.
LJB: Where can I find the download you are referring to? For some reason, I can't find the latest version you are referring to?
Thanks so much!

Hey! I downloaded the new version and it worked! Thanks!

Sorry, Wells just stopped working for me.
With version 2008 I was fine, downloading and making payments.
I just upgraded to 2010r2, and now when I try to make a payment, I get the java.lang.exception error, "there was an error communicating with your financial institution."
Please help

Scott,
I have directed our connection specialist to this case. Would you please post the full error message so we can look further into this issue? FYI, somestimes the error window you received is too small to show the full error message, but it's not immediately obvious that there's more to the message. Please click and drag the lower right hand corner of the message window to expand the window, and then copy and paste the full error message here.
I apologize for the inconvenience.

Sigh...
A different account at the same bank. I tried re-setting up Online Banking. I got several errors regarding wrong PIN/Password, and then it seemed to accept the password, but then gave me this error message:
There was an error communicating with your financial institution. The details of this error are below.
Bank Name: Wells Fargo
The error code reported by the server was: 2003
ACCOUNT NOT FOUND
I am just lost. I have more than a week's worth of transactions I cannot complete, and am ready to give up. Is this an issue I need to work out with Wells (who will argue with me that I am not using Money or Quicken), or is it a problem with the software. I am giving myself two days, and then moving on to some other software or solution.

What????
Now the program is asking me for a PIN with EVERY transaction I try to send, even those from accounts that have always worked?????!!!!!
What the hell is going on?
How do I get refunds from MoneyDance for the late fees that are now being charged?

And here's the error message from an account that always worked. But of course doesn't now.

Hi Scott,
I've gotten confirmation from another Wells Fargo customer that they are able to connect with no problems. You should try disabling your current connection to Wells and then recreating it using the New Connection button on the Online Banking Setup screen. To do so, you can follow these steps:
1) Select your bank account in Moneydance
2) Select the Online->Setup Online Banking button/menu
3) Click the "Disable" button
4) Select the Online->Setup Online Banking button/menu (again)
5) Click the "New Connection" button and select your bank and hit OK
6) Continue with the setup process, entering your username/password
7) Repeat steps 1-6 for any additional accounts
Make sure you pick new connection, even though your bank is still one of the connection choices after you disable it. Choosing your bank from the list of available banks will force Moneydance to download the updated information, which should then allow you to connect.
Please let me know if you continue to have connection problems after recreating your connection.

Scott,
One more thing. I just need to confirm what version of the software you are using. Can you let me know what version of Moneydance and Java you have installed?

Sorry-it didn't work. I followed the steps easily.
Two of my Wells Accounts can download transactions. At least one of them can not pay an online bill. I get the error message:
There was an error communicating with your financial institution. The details of this error are below.
Bank Name: Wells Fargo
Account: Checking:XXXXXXX
Account Number: XXXXXXX
The error code reported by the server was: 2006
SUBSCRIBER BANK ACCOUNT MISSING OR INVALID 80900
I am using MD version 2010r2 build 738
Thank you.

And the other account will download transactions, but will not pay bills:

I'm sorry, an error occurred. The details of this error are below.
Error Description: java.lang.Exception: Server did not acknowledge payment message
I am getting different error messages from different checking accounts at Wells. I can download but not pay bills. I am lost.
I am getting to the point that I cannot sit on MD any more. The companies whom I need to pay aren't going to wait if I tell them my money software decided to change everything to 'disabled'.
I need to fix this or switch to crappy Quicken. Please help!

Hi Scott,
The Bill Pay problem is a bug in Moneydance that we've unfortunately been unable to resolve after a few months now of working on it. We thought we had fixed it for Moneydance 2010, but obviously not. It's been especially tricky to fix, since it seems to work fine for some folks some of the time and barely work at all for others. Unfortunately, I can't give you a timeline for a fix on that problem, since we're still not sure exactly what's going on.
As to your other error, it sounds like either the account number associated with that account is mistyped or blank. Please double check to make sure you entered all of the account information correctly when you created the account in Moneydance. if you still have trouble connecting, try creating a new account in Moneydance and connecting to your bank through the new account to see if you have any success.
Please let me know if you still have trouble connecting or if I can be of any further assistance.

Keep getting the following error message when I'm trying to pay bills online with Wells Fargo accounts. I can sometimes get the online bill pay to work if I close the software and relaunch it. Relaunching MD 2010 every time I have to pay any bill can make the process of bill-paying ... a frustrating process. Any help?

Hi Penny,
Unfortunately, we still haven't been able to fix this bug. Sean and I will be working on a potential fix this morning hopefully, but currently there is no know workaround for this bug.
Sorry for the inconvenience! We'll update everyone when we think we have a solution.
