If your sync was set up years ago, then when you Sync’d you got a partial dataset.

Thus, when you disabled sync, deleted all files from Dropbox. Enabled sync etc you created a new sync database. All nice and shiney and clean/new.

So I think all good.

Have you checked and compared account and net worth balances?

Confirmation please.

Thanks very much Stuart. I have been using MD since 2002, and while I have had a few crises in that time, this was the worst. It seems that giving away the iMac (primary MD Mac) created a problem of which I was completely unaware and has just jumped out of the woodwork...this has unnerved me!

Yes I have checked the balances, all are OK. I reset the iPad and iPhone syncing as well.

borehamtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/491686032021-04-29T21:47:44Z2021-04-29T21:47:44ZAdding second computer nightmare...solved I think.
Each machine is totally independent and it works on 5 different operating systems, you are not getting any direct machine to machine communication. Hence each machine is effectively its own little island. Data is being exchanged but the method is that each machine checks, say a central island, for updates and also to deposit a copy of what has been done on it.

With the level of independence the machine that initiates the creation of the syncing relationship is the mater and the only one the type of relationship can be changed on. This machine is the one that creates the data store on the central island and does the initial population, it is deemed the master, it assignes the encryption key and also sets up the data set ID. Subsequent or secondary machines connect to this central island and get their initial data from here and then go on to get updates and provide updates like the master machine does.

If a secondary machine should go away it is easy enough to add another, but if a master then it is not. There is no way to make another machine the master within an existing relationship. I suspect this is due to the independent nature of each machine, plus I think it could be problematic as you could have multiple masters, I'm not sure the result of that, with independent machines there would be no way to enforce a you can only have one master rule. So in this case you really have to break the relationship and recreate them from scratch as you have done here.

dwgtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/491686032021-04-29T22:12:11Z2021-04-29T22:12:11ZAdding second computer nightmare...solved I think.
Although I have been using MD for 19 years I learned a lot today and my confidence in recovering from just about any situation (with suitable backups) increased.

borehamtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/491686032021-04-29T22:32:52Z2021-04-29T22:32:52ZAdding second computer nightmare...solved I think.
