It would be very helpful if there was a way to merge transactions after one of them has been confirmed. The other transaction is manually entered, or really automatically via reminders. However, it should not matter how each transaction got there. This is probably a low priority item, but please put it on the list.

Thanks!

jenkins007tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/491730212021-05-03T01:44:12Z2021-05-03T01:44:12ZMerge Transactions after they are confirmed

I'm not quite sure I understand. If you have a manually entered transaction, or one created from a reminder, or any source really, if you download a matching transaction from your bank, you should be able to merge that transaction with the existing one in the confirmation process.

I'm not yet a moneydance user, but I'm seeking clarification of this question before I get on board. Are transaction merges for similar/duplicates NOT possible after they have been added to the register? Is merging transactions in the register only possible in relation to transactions that are sitting in a queue reserved for related transactions that were just manually or automatically downloaded from a financial institution?
Thanks.

David Bachtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/491730212021-06-08T19:25:16Z2021-06-08T19:25:16ZMerge Transactions after they are confirmed

Merging works on any txns downloaded that have not yet been confirmed (or merged). Once they are confirmed (or merged) then that's it... But.... if you then download again (the same txns) then you can again do the confirm/merge... Does this help..

Put differently, you could for example, work manually for years, then download a OFX file from the bank and it will offer to confirm/merge all these downloaded...

I'd prefer for existing and new transactions to just be sorted together by date order in the register so I can efficiently choose what matches with what, without bothering with a cumbersome interface with unnecessary little split-screens that wants to make questionable recommendations for me. Does that make sense? Can you share an opinion? Thanks.

David Bachtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/491730212021-06-08T19:59:51Z2021-06-08T19:59:51ZMerge Transactions after they are confirmed

Why not just try it. You can use the program for free to try it out.

Stuart Beesley (Mr Toolbox)tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/491730212021-07-11T16:43:01Z2021-07-11T16:43:02ZMerge Transactions after they are confirmed

I completely understand what the OP jenkins007 was asking, and this is exactly why I am searching support. I will type a step by step in hopes that it makes sense.

1- Download transactions from bank to Moneydance
2- Confirm transactions
3- Oh no! I forgot to "merge" that downloaded transaction with the transaction that I manually added in my register!

** Looking for a way to "merge" the transactions now.

Is this possible?

SMBrachtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/491730212021-07-11T21:21:03Z2021-07-11T21:21:03ZMerge Transactions after they are confirmed

Hello,

It sounds like in your scenario, you've incorrectly confirmed that particular transaction in step 2, by confirming it but not merging it. Let me know if I've misunderstood. At that point, I think you could either delete the manually entered transaction (and perhaps before that edit the downloaded one so it includes any extra information that the manual one had), or you could possibly delete the downloaded transaction and redownload it, depending on what method you use to import your data. At that point, you could confirm that transaction correctly and merge it.

In confirming the auto downloaded transaction, the user (me) incorrectly choose to confirm the transaction and not merge it with the one already in the register.

It seems that a menu item under "Edit" would be helpful and beneficial for a better user experience.

jenkins007tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/491730212021-08-23T21:00:31Z2021-08-24T11:03:50ZMerge Transactions after they are confirmed

I'm a fellow user.

You seem to be asking for an option to "merge after the event". That is something that the developers could consider for a future version, but support cannot make it happen they can only put it forward as a user requested improvement.

dwgtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/491730212021-08-24T10:52:22Z2021-08-24T10:52:22ZMerge Transactions after they are confirmed

Yes, DWG, you are correct. This is a feature request and should be prioritized...

Thank you!

jenkins007
