The subject says it all. I was having a problem updating to the latest version but that is now resolved and I am still having problems with no sound. I am running ubuntu 12.10 64 bit. Here is my console window at startup.

Starting Moneydance 2012.3 (852) at Tue Jan 08 10:57:09 EST 2013
Settings Folder: /home/ron/.moneydance
OS: Linux 3.5.0-21-generic amd64
Java: 1.7.0_07 (Oracle Corporation)
Is in sandbox: false; restricted file access: false
opening last file: current

Dropbox interface: Dropbox FS Interface: /.moneydancesync/15b5be2b-69e6-4680-8cf4-fd9002eef446

I have tested the sound settings and everything works (except Moneydance).

    Hi Ron,

Have you made sure that the sound is enabled in Moneydance by going to File -> Preferences in Moneydance, then under the "General" tab and making sure the "Beep when Transactions Change" box is ticked? You may need to restart Moneydance for the sound to begin.

Yup.  Did that first.  Restarted.  Tested sound outside of Moneydance (worked).

While I was testing sound in the sound app, I saw a brief message flash when I entered a transaction, but it was so brief that I couldn't read it (even after several attempts).  I think the first part of it was ALSA plugin ....

    Hi Ron,

Have you made any changes to the sound system in Ubuntu or to your Java settings? I'm unable to reproduce this in a stock install of Ubuntu 12.10 on amd64.

Can you send us the log output from after you enter a transaction? Please go to Help -> Console window in Moneydance, then enter a new transaction in the register of one of your accounts, then go back to the console window and click the "Copy to Clipboard" button and paste the output to us here.

Also can you open a terminal and send us the output of the command:

    java -version

Sorry for duplicate reply.  I forgot to add the following response to your question.
I made NO changes to the sound system.  Cha-ching was present in the previous Moneydance version (I believe it was 825?).

    Hi Ron,

We've released a new preview release to fix a couple of bugs we just discovered, so I'm wondering if that version may fix the issue you're seeing for some reason. Can you try it out? It's located here:

    http://infinitekind.com/preview

If that doesn't work, can you try closing Moneydance, then renaming your:

    /opt/Moneydance/jre

folder to something else? It could be jre-old, for example. This will force Moneydance to use your system's java instead of the java that it comes bundled with, so perhaps that will have an effect.

problem is Fixed.  I am now running 2012.4 (854), but the thing which fixed was rename jre and forcing use of the system jre.  FYI my console window

Note that java version is now 7.09 vs 7.07.

By the way, one more thing.  You guys are awesome.  I've been a developer for over 50 yrs, recently retired, and I don't think i've ever seen another software vendor who has responded as quickly or as helpfully as you guys.

    Thanks much. :-)
