New Category Window Pop Up for No Reason

Hi,
I have put up with this for a few years and just updated from 2014 to 2021 expecting it to have gone away but no luck! When entering transactions manually and tabbing out of the category field this pop up appears which requires moving the mouse to cancel, rather than just tabbing through to enter the value of the transaction. It is a pop up to add a new category, but you don't want to do that as the program will almost always have auto filled the correct category from the transaction you have entered, I have no idea why it is prompting for a new category in this way. It is really irrigtating and slowing me down. Is there a setting I have changed causing this issue or can you suggest a fix please?

    Hello,

    The program definitely shouldn't be doing that in either version, unless you have entered a new category in the category field that you then need to create. To clarify, this is happening every time you try to use the tab key to move forward out of the category field? Or does it only seem to happen with some categories, or some other more specific scenarios?

    It happens the first time I tab out of that field when entering a new transaction and I haven't manually selected the category ie I tabbed in and then straight out.

    It didn't used to behave like this in all accounts but it seems to now.

    What do you reckon?

    Hello Gregan,

    Hmm, so are you trying to avoid selecting a category in that field before leaving it? Or are these for transactions that are mostly autofilled? That is, ones where you started entering in the description, the program recognized what you were entering from a previous entry, and tried to fill in the rest (including the category), meaning you could just move right out of the category field because it was already correct? (In short, I'm trying to understand why you haven't selected the category in that field.)

    Hi,

    That's right, I will have 99% of the time typed the description and the program has correctly auto filled the category and I am just tabbing through to get to the field to enter the value of the transaction. Note that if I don't enter a description at all for some odd reason and try to tab through the category field I get the same problem (the default category is auto filled in this case).

    It is only when I pause in the category field and manually select the category that I can tab out without issue.

    Tested on both Windows 10 and Linux Feren OS using Moneydance 2021.1(3066).

    Created a new Bank type transaction, date highlighted, repeatedly pressing Tab until I get to the Payment field, the default Category for the account auto filling in on the way. I left the description field blank. Entered a value in Payment field and hit Enter. Did not see the issue of the new category window. Tried the same thing on a Credit Card type account, no issue.

    Which build of 2021 are you running on what computer operating system?

    Hi,  it's a new Dell inspiron 5593 running 2021 (2006) downloaded yesterday but I have had the problem for years on my old Dell laptop running 2014.

    A new preview build 2021.1(3067) has just been released with a revision note:
    * Polishing and fixing transaction entry field issues

    Maybe this will help.

    That seems to have done it! Why they didn't just tell me is a bit wierd. Anyway, thanks for your help, it's cheered me up no end.
