If that is the case, the version of MD you are trying to run is not fully compatible with your new MacBook.

I would suggest you download & install the latest version of MD from link below:-

We are sorry to hear about the problem you have encountered.

If you'll be keeping the older computer, you can sync your data file so it's accessible from both systems. Any changes made on either computer will be synced with the other, as outlined here

If you want to just use the new system, on the older computer, open Moneydance and choose Help --> Show Documents Folder. A window will open displaying your .moneydance data file (on a Windows computer, the file will appear as a regular folder, without the orange Moneydance icon). You should take a copy of this file, and move it to the new computer.

On the new computer, move the .moneydance file to the location you want it to be stored. Then double click the .moneydance file to access your data. Alternatively, open Moneydance and choose File --> Open --> Open Other (or 'Open Other' from the Welcome window).

If you prefer, you can use backup files to transfer your data. Open Moneydance and choose File --> Export Backup. This will create a .moneydancearchive backup file that you can move to the new computer using a USB, shared folder or whichever method you prefer.
On the new computer, double click the backup file to restore your data. Alternatively, open Moneydance and choose File --> Restore from Backup (or 'Import New Account Set' from the Welcome window).
When you restore your data in this way, a new data file is created in the default location for use going forward. The default location is accessible from Moneydance via Help --> Show Documents Folder.
When you're happy with the data that populates into Moneydance, you can remove the backup file you transferred from the older computer.

I hope this information is helpful. Please let us know if you have further questions or need more assistance.

Which version and build of Moneydance are you currently using?
To check, open Moneydance and select Help --> About Moneydance (or Moneydance --> About Moneydance on a Mac) where the version and build number will be displayed.

Can you let me know which operating system you're running on your computer/s?

Also downloaded newest version as trial but that didn't work either. I think problem is correctly moving file after copying

jhoward162tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/492017632021-05-18T13:16:12Z2021-05-18T13:16:12ZMoving files to new computer

Please download Moneydance 2021.1 (3068) from this page and choose the MacOS download option.

You should double click the file to begin the installation process. You'll then be prompted to move the file from your Downloads folder to your Applications folder.

You may be prompted to replace the existing version of Moneydance.
If not, you should manually remove any older versions of the program.

You should then navigate to your Applications folder, where you can remove any older versions of Moneydance that remain installed. Simply delete any older copies of the program. You might want to also check your Downloads folder, in case Moneydance has been accidentally installed here, and remove any older copies from this folder too.

It might be useful to re-name the newest version of Moneydance to Moneydance 2021.1 (3068), to be easier to find. (Changing the application name won't effect the program or its functionality).

You'll also need to reconfigure the Moneydance shortcut in your Dock.

To do this 'right click' (or press Ctrl and click) on the Moneydance icon in your Dock and choose Options, then disable 'Keep in Dock'.

Then open the newest version of Moneydance from within your Applications folder. Once running, 'right click' (or press Ctrl and click) on the Moneydance icon in your Dock and choose Options --> Keep in Dock.

Finally, select Open other from the welcome to Moneydance window to access your data.

Please keep us posted on your progress, thank you!

When you restore data from a backup file, a new data file will be created for use going forward. If the restored data file is in the default location, it's accessible from Moneydance via Help --> Show Documents Folder.

Any data files stored here are accessible from the program by choosing File --> Open. Any files you've created or restored will be listed here.

If so, you can restore these files into Moneydance by double clicking them.
Alternatively, choose File --> Restore from Backup (or 'Import New Account Set' from the Welcome window). Then navigate to and select the backup file.

If you'd like to re-name the restored file, you can follow the steps in this article from the knowledge base.

It's important you close the Moneydance program fully before you make any changes.

Then change the data file name to whatever you want - just be sure to retain the .moneydance file extension at the end of the file name.

Can you let me know if you store your Moneydance file on a shared folder such as iCloud, Dropbox, Google Drive, etc?

Also, would you be able to send us a copy of your Moneydance error logs, the logs should include information on what might be causing an issue.

The logs are saved on your computer as an errlog.txt file.

You can get to your error log in one of two ways:

1) using the
Help->Console Window
menu to show the console log in a window, or

2) in the Finder, press ⌘⇧G and then copy and paste
~/Library/Containers/com.infinitekind.MoneydanceOSX/Data/Library/Application Support
into the field and press enter/return.

At that point the finder will show an internal folder which contains the errlog.txt file which contains the log.

Finally you can paste the content to your next reply.

Thank you
