I turned off sync on the mobile app, I opened up moneydance in Windows and disabled sync and I removed the app from my phone. Then I restored the Mike Personal Finances data only again from my third party back up software after renaming the original Db to another name. When I first bring up moneydance the Bank, Credit Cards and loans all look okay. Then after moving around and reviewing the contents the Mike Personal Finances creates itself as an account and is corrupted again. I think the applicaiont is doing this as my copy of the DB restored was two months old. DID I GET UPGRADE SOFTWARE AUTO LOADED ON MY PC RECENTLY?

Mike Geubtnertag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/492182902021-05-27T13:05:36Z2021-05-27T13:05:36ZMoneydance datbase name keeps getting added as an account

This probably means you had something dodgy with your ‘root’ top level account and MD has detected this and built you a new root account.

I’ll have to play around to see how you fix it.

Is your data and balances ok?

⁣Thanks, Mike

The account list eventually become screwed up again.

I don't think it is data, I think the application doesn't like a recent transaction I put in and it encounters an error it cannot rectify. Unless I may be restoring only a section the data and something else other then .moneydance file needs restored from my third part directory backups.

Does infinity support monitor this thread?

Michael Geubtnertag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/492182902021-05-27T16:53:23Z2021-05-27T16:53:23ZMoneydance datbase name keeps getting added as an account

All you need is the whole .moneydance folder and all contents. I hope it's not on a Cloud drive as these can get corrupt... Are you turning on Sync? If so, I suspect you have a 'damaged' txn file that's Syncing into your dataset and corrupting it..?

Yes, IK do monitor - sometimes....

It also occurred yesterday 5/27 possibly after syncing the new Android app.

Unfortunately the entire backed up directory copy was three months old. I edited my backup software to include that entire directory every three days now.

To get the past three months of finance data required me download that data using the web connect portion of the moneydance software. It took alot of time to reestablish the relationships of the transactions between the accounts.

I have since removed the moneydance app from my phone, turned off syncing to Dropbox and cleared the Dropbox directory. I am back and running again with Moneydance. I still like it better than a Quicken subscription but if this happens again that view may change.
.

Michael Geubtnertag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/492182902021-05-28T21:13:51Z2021-05-28T21:13:51ZMoneydance datbase name keeps getting added as an account

I'm a fellow user.

If you have a backup that was not created by Moneydance that you restore and you are using syncing then what will happen is that the restored data will be effectively overwritten by the syncing data since that is newer, so if this approach is used it is not surprising that you wind up with the same result.

To restore from this style of backup you need to stop syncing on all other device and to remove all syncing data from Dropbox, both locally and on the Dropbox server by hand before you restore the data.

dwgtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/492182902021-05-28T21:39:50Z2021-05-28T21:39:54ZMoneydance datbase name keeps getting added as an account

I seem to have solved the issue for now. I disconnected the app from the Dropbox account. Then restored a backup that was just two days old. I only had a few entries to update. Then re-synced it with Dropbox. Then re-synced my phone with Dropbox without any problems. So far it's just fine.

As an FYI after I synced the Android App, which was required because of Android App update, it took quite awhile to finish the initial sync. I believe that is when the problem occurred. After restoring the backup then re-syncing the Android App it only took a few seconds for all my data to be synced. So as a guess maybe a problem with the initial sync was what caused the problem.

Super glad MoneyDance offers an easy way to backup every day and restore the backup. Definitely made the process much easier.

davewpilottag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/492182902021-05-28T21:47:43Z2021-05-28T21:47:43ZMoneydance datbase name keeps getting added as an account

It has been noted that the Android app update has problems when syncing has been operation for a while. The new app is now downloading all data and consolidating it so it seems it can choke when there is a large number of files, as you get with syncing that has been in operation for a while.

At this time it seems that re-setting up syncing resolves this as it creates a consolidate file on Dropbox.

The developer is aware of the issue.

dwgtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/492182902021-05-28T23:12:33Z2021-05-28T23:12:34ZMoneydance datbase name keeps getting added as an account

That sounds like a plausible explanation of what happened with my use case. I had a ton of files in my Dropbox location from Moneydance because it creates one every time the app closes on my PC.

I still am not downloading the reinstalling the android app. I am leaving syncing disabled in Moneydance for quite sometime.

I am happy with just using Moneydance on the PC.

Michael Geubtner
