My broker assigns different user IDs for each account

I've four accounts with a brokerage firm. Accessing the accounts on-line requires I use different user IDs for each account. It appears that MoneyDance allows only one user ID per financial institution. Is this true?

Thanks

    Sterlpa,

I apologize for the long delay in our response, I am embarrassed to say that we have been snowed under with questions about Moneydance 2010. Application-based online banking often requires a different login/PIN than the ones that are used for ATM or web-based banking, so it is quite possible your institution would only require one user ID for this connection. If you let me know which brokerage firm you are working with I can look into the issue further.

Please let me know if I can be of further assistance, and I apologize again for any inconvenience this may have caused you.

    Hello Angie,

No problem, I'm just happy to hear from someone. The broker is
thinkorswim. I have 4 accounts (1 regular and 3 IRA accounts) with them.
The online login ID for each account is the account # which of course is
    different for each account.

    Thanks

    Pat,
From what I could gather by scouring ThinkorSwim's website it does not appear that they support direct OFX connections, which is what Moneydance uses to connect to Financial Institutions Servers in order to download account information. It may be the case that you can download OFX files from their website and manually import the file you get from them but unfortunately it does not look like direct connection is possible.
Please let me know if I can help you with anything else.

Thanks for your response. thinkorswim uses Penson Financial as their clearing firm. Penson does support OFX download which is what I'm using to import transactions into MS Money. Here are the instructions for setting up OFX download from the thinkorswim site:

In order to gather your thinkorswim trading activity you need to connect to our clearing firm's OFX server. Look for "Penson Financial" among the list of brokers and clearing firms in your preferred software. If you do not see Penson among the list of brokers and clearing firms you will likely need to download your trade acitivity - using the Penson Resources page on our website - and import it into your preferred software.

In order to connect to Penson's OFX server you must use the following credentials:
Username: You username is your thinkorswim account number preceded by "07-". For example, if your account number was 12345678 your username would be "07-12345678".
Password: Your password is your social security number with no hyphens. For example, if your social security number is "123-45-678" your password would be "12345678".

Hi, so you should be able to connect to multiple accounts at the same institution without issue. When you are setting up online banking, after the first screen where you indicate the institution, you click the next key, and at this point you can specify what account your mapping that particular connection to. So for each account you have you should make corresponding accounts in Moneydance and then link each account to each connection. Please let me know if this doesn't resolve your issue and if so, we'll try and find other solutions.
    Sincerely,

    Hi,

I followed your instructions creating three new accounts in a new
MoneyDance file. After I was done I went back and verified the
information I'd entered and found the user IDs for all three accounts
were the same as the third account I'd set up. I then edited the first
account setting it's user ID to what it should be then checked the other
two accounts and found their user IDs were the same as the account I'd
    just updated.

Here are the steps I performed in creating a fourth account:

Account -> New Account and select Investment then click Next

I enter the account name and click Ok which finishes the account
    creation process

I then select the account from the list of accounts on the left and
click Online -> Setup Online Banking which brings up the dialog below

I click Next which brings up the dialog below showing the account I'd
    originally selected

Clicking Next brings up the dialog shown below. The user ID shown is the
one I last entered. I enter the user ID for this new account, which is
    different, and the password

Clicking Ok above brings up the dialog shown below where the value shown
in the Account field is the user ID entered into the dialog above.
There's only one item in the drop down and it's the same as what's shown
in the Account field so I leave it as is

Clicking Next brings up this dialog. After clicking Finish I checked the
other accounts and the user ID for all the accounts is the same as this
    account I just created.

    What am I doing wrong?

    Thanks

    Pat,
In the box featured in screenshot three are you clicking on Penson Account4 and changing it to the account you want to map for that specific connection each time? I think this may be the issue that's messing things up for you, but if you are changing that box each time as appropriate then it may be something else.
Let me know if that addresses it or not,

    Jon,

I believe you mean screen shot four. It doesn't seem necessary to select
an account because it defaults to the account I chose when starting the
online setup. If I started with Penson account1 that's what's shown, if
I started with Penson account2 then Penson account2 is the default
account shown. However just to be through I've also clicked the up/down
arrows which pops up another dialog from which I select the account I'm
setting up. If I'm setting up Penson account3 I select Penson account3
    from the list of accounts.

Hi, thanks for helping to clarify this for me. It's beginning to sound like this might be a bug your encountering. I asked the developer about this and he said some older versions of Moneydance had this issue but the newer releases shouldn't have this problem. If you go to Help Menu -> About Moneydance it should tell you what version of moneydance you are using. If you are using anything older than 743, please consider upgrading to the latest version found at this link: http://moneydance.com/trac/wiki/Moneydance2010Beta .

I checked and found I was using an older version (build 735). Following
your suggestion I've removed the older version and installed the latest.
Starting with a new file I created two new accounts setting up online
banking for each account and the problem is still there. It appears that
MoneyDance allows only one user ID/password per financial institution
    connection.

Each time I set up an account for online banking I see the dialog shown
below which asks for a user ID and password to use when connecting to
the financial institution and each time the user ID that's shown is the
one entered for the previous account set up to use online banking. I
believe this means that I'm just editing the single connection to
Pension Financial and not creating a new one for each account.

    Hi,
So this seems like there is some bug that is still persisting for certain financial institutions. I've created a bug report for it here at our bug tracking site: http://moneydance.com/trac/ticket/2784
Sorry I couldn't be of more assistance at this point, hopefully we can get it sorted out though.
