Can you attach a screenshot of what you are seeing and describe how it is incorrect? If you're not sure how to take a screenshot, please see http://www.take-a-screenshot.org/

MD does group the child accounts together, but the issue is it doesn't actually show the parent account in any meaningful way. Sort of like a File Explorer with Folders, you click the branch to expand it - there is nothing like that in MD, so it's difficult to see where one Business's accounts end and another begins.

Is this possibly an option I just need to enable somewhere in Preferences?

Jasontag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/493123212021-10-13T18:19:48Z2021-10-13T18:19:50ZSub Account grouping on left pane

Any further thoughts on this? I was hoping the new 2022 version would have improved grouping of child accounts or an option to expand/collapse parent accounts

Jasontag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/493123212021-10-15T00:57:49Z2021-10-15T00:57:49ZSub Account grouping on left pane

Haven't seen this but it is definitely not an option. It looks like the parent account is missing. It appears that the accounts are grouped by parent, but there is no entry for that parent. Possibly an unreported bug? The new 2022 version has nothing in the release notes about this and I don't think it has been worked on lately.

sthtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/493123212021-10-15T01:11:21Z2021-10-15T01:11:21ZSub Account grouping on left pane

You might be right that it's an unreported bug.. I've been using MD since 2017 and have never seen any Parent Account entries on the left side bar, only the small indent shown in the previous screenshot.

I've actually increased the number of accounts I am managing now (over 30+ credit lines for different purposes) so it is even more cumbersome than before.

Jasontag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/493123212021-10-15T01:50:09Z2021-10-15T01:50:09ZSub Account grouping on left pane

In theory, based on the display, the account shown above the Biz1 box should be the parent account.

If you go into the account info screen, for each account, it will show what the parent account it. Note that the parent account must be the same type of account as the child.

dwgtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/493123212021-10-15T02:01:44Z2021-10-15T02:19:56ZSub Account grouping on left pane

@dwg thank you for this insight, it has solved (or at least identified) my issue!

The account above Biz1 is not the parent account, it's just the last alphabetical credit card listed.

I see what you mean though - I did a test where I edited the cc account to be a sub account of another cc account, and it does nest them correctly. What I had done was create Biz 1 as a Liability, then added its Credit Card accounts to it as a sub-account.

What I SHOULD have done was create a blank Credit Card account as a placeholder for Biz 1, then nest all its associated cards into it.

So while it's not a bug, per-se, I feel like the Parent Account selection should be limited to the Account type you're trying to create, in order to avoid seeing this potential display problem.

Thanks again!

PS. I do still wish you could collapse/expand these parent accounts. It's now better organized but still way too long of a list for me.

Jason
