Thank you for contacting Moneydance support.

Firstly, I believe there must be a misunderstanding as the color features under File->Preferences->Appearance->Theme only apply to Moneydance other than checks.
In fact any layout changes to checks are available by navigating to File->Preferences->Check Printing and this does not include changing the color.

Can you try printing a test page to PDF and attach it to your next reply? it might help understanding the issue better.
You can read instructions for taking a screenshot here:

Thank you

to tell the inkjet printer to print checks in B&W only, and not to expect
to use color inks. Hence my attempt to select monochrome printing only.
Typically this is available under the printer "properties" settings from
the print dialog, but that button, though shown next to the printer
selection dropdown box, is not an active button.

Checks print fine otherwise.

This will save your check in PDF format. Then you could use another program (e.g.Adobe Acrobat or similar) to open your file and print from there instead. I believe that in this way you should be able to choose to print in grayscale (black and white).

I understand this may not be ideal but hopefully it will help achieving the results you were expecting.
