Trial Version keeps crashing.
I just downloaded the linux trial version (without java). I've downloaded new transactions from my credit card and MoneyDance keeps crashing after I've recorded about 10 transactions.
I'm running Fedora 10 and using the "openjdk" package that came with it.
Here is the first message that appears: E: shm.c: mmap() failed: Cannot allocate memory
My laptop (a thinkpad t42) has 2 GB of ram. It won't hold any more.
After a bunch of repeats of the above message, I get this: java:
pulse.c:200: pulse_new: Assertion p->context' failed.
./Moneydance: line 273: 2942 Aborted "$app_java_home/bin/java"
-client -Dinstall4j.jvmDir="$app_java_home"
-Dexe4j.moduleName="$prg_dir/$progname" $INSTALL4J_ADD_VM_PARAMS
-classpath "$local_classpath" com.install4j.runtime.Launcher launch
Moneydance true false "$prg_dir/error.log" "$prg_dir/output.log"
false true false "s_1s3rict.gif" true true 529 101 "" 20 20 "Arial"
"0,0,0" 8 500 "version 2008" 20 40 "Arial" "0,0,0" 8 500 -1
-Xmx512m "$@"
I hope we can get MoneyDance to work. If I can get rid of Quicken, I can get MicroSoft out of my life.

Could you install Sun Java (1.5 or 1.6), please and try starting Moneydance with that JVM? The error seems to be outside MD i.e. a general JVM problem; or maybe the setting -Xmx512m does not work with openjdk

I can confirm that it also crashes for me using this java:
java version "1.6.0_0" OpenJDK Runtime Environment (IcedTea6 1.4.1) (6b14-1.4.1-0ubuntu7) OpenJDK Client VM (build 14.0-b08, mixed mode, sharing)
The following java does not crash, but the cash register sound stops working near the same transaction when the above java would crash:
java version "1.6.0_13" Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_13-b03) Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 11.3-b02, mixed mode, sharing)

Hi Mike
I am also using:
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_13-b03) Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 11.3-b02, mixed mode, sharing)
I am running this on ubuntu 9.04 and am not experiencing any problems with transaction sounds.
The error message "java: pulse.c:200: pulse_new: Assertion" is refering to the Pulse Audio sound server. You could try upgrading to the latest version of PulseAudio. I am running 1:0.9.14-0ubuntu20. It seems like there is a problem with your PulseAudio installation and I think that is a little out of the scope of the forum. There have been general problems with fedora 10 and pulse audio (not involving Moneydance) here is a link to one such forum posting describing how to "Fix PulseAudio and primary audio issues with Fedora 10"
