<p>I can see you’ve received a reply from one of our knowledgeable Moneydance customers. To add to this useful information I thought it's worth mentioning that in view of the changes Charles Schwab (as well as other major banks) have made, we have introduced a new connection method, <strong>Moneydance +</strong>. This a premium service for downloading accounts and transactions from thousands of banks and brokerages worldwide.</p>
<p>If you wish to try out the new connection method, you would have to download and install <a href="https://infinitekind.com/preview">Moneydance 2022 (4045)</a> first. Then, you should navigate to the <strong>Online->Setup Online Banking</strong> menu then choose the <strong>Moneydance+</strong> option.<br>
Here are the steps for setting up Moneydance+:<br>
Moneydance will ask you for your email address and then “register” your email and the current file on the server, along with your current license key (if you have one).</p>
<p>The server will send a confirmation link and code to your email address. Clicking the link and entering the code will confirm that it is your email address, and that establishes your identity. It also links the data file to your identity.<br>
Next, you see your “account” page on the MD+ server. If you don’t already have a Moneydance+ subscription then you see a subscribe button for either the add-on subscription or the full subscription (depending upon whether you had a license key in step 1)<br>
When the full subscription goes through, MD+ will generate a license key and email it to you, and also store it on the server in your account there.</p>
<p>Once subscribed, you’ll be brought back to that page and should see a link to connect your accounts.<br>
Clicking that will take you to Plaid where you can choose your bank/s, enter your login, or (usually) bounce over to your bank’s web site so that you can login directly and then it bounces you back to Plaid to make the connection.<br>
Please be reassured that we never see any of the user’s bank login information, and the access tokens necessary for connecting to Plaid are encrypted in a way that can only be decrypted on the user’s computer using that data file. Also, that data file is never uploaded or stored on our servers.</p>

There will be a small monthly charge to use the new service. The reason for this is that your financial institution requires using an aggregator in order to download your data automatically, so we've had to adapt to this "forceful" change in order to continue offering this service.<br>
Although we would have preferred to avoid the subscription fee sadly we couldn't cover the cost to us without them. That being said, we will continue to provide Moneydance for a one-time charge, so that users who don't want to have any subscription aren't forced to pay for them.<br>
If you have purchased Moneydance already we're looking at $2/month for the add-on download service.</p>

<p>I absolutely hate it that banks are forcing us to use an aggregator to access our data., I was absolutely delighted when I found Moneydance a few years ago and the alternative it provided. I even moved some accounts around to try to use only institutions that Moneydance supported. I've finally had to accept though that aggregators are going to rule the industry and I installed the 2022 preview today and set up MD+.</p>
<p>The install was easy and the MD+ setup went smoothly. I'm now reconnected to my Schwab Investor Checking account and also to a couple of accounts that I've never been able to download from before. <p>hleofxquotes, Stuart Beesley, and I tested an OFX download alternative and it works great, but who knows when USAA might change again?</p>

<p>I don't plan to move everything over, and thankfully Moneydance is committed to keeping Direct Connect as long there are banks supporting it.</p>

Turns out Schwab and Moneydance have been in discussions regarding access since October 2020. Apparently MD wouldn't agree to be in compliance with their terms and conditions. I don't know or care what those are and maybe there is a good reason why MD didn't agree. There are several points here that really p*ss me off. 1. MD obviously knew this was going to happen and said nothing (that I'm aware of) to warn people. 2. Maddy/IK didn't say a word about this but instead blamed it on them (Schwab/financial institutions) and then pushed their own pay service. 3. MD+ doesn't even have a working solution to get investments in with their pay service.</p>
<p>Okay IK, let's hear what you have to say about this? Sounds to me like you are trying to drive users to you pay service by not agreeing to work with the financial institutions.<br>
Who else besides USAA and Schwab have you been in discussions with and now have lost access? Who's the next institution I'm going to loose access to with no warning? <p>Discussions since October 2020. Yes. True. Schwab shut down OFX then; Sean created a proxy portal (that made MD look like an aggregator) to keep OFX downloads going. That portal was shut down by Schwab on Oct 1, 2021. I don't know if iK knew that would happen on that date. iK asked for an extension, appears it was denied.</p>
<p>Compliance to terms and conditions. The terms were to have a U.S. presence, is my best knowledge. iK is a small UK company. When iK said we don't have a US presence, Schwab (a global company) said - sorry, YOU are not complying. You must use an aggregator to continue. (Schwab at first said you must join the FDX concept, and iK did, but the US presence became the breaking point.)</p>
<p>As to your aggravating points:<br>
1) iK has kept users aware (through this forum) of what's been going on throughout.<br>
2) Maddy was one of the people (but Sean mostly) that did keep people aware. She (as you say) "pushed" the new service as their only way to solve the problem, as OFX has become less of an alternative, and Schwab had dismissed iK.<br>
3) You are correct. Investment accounts don't work yet, and I want them as well.</p>

<p>"who else are you in discussions with" - probably some, but not all. I think iK is just treading water and not drown. Personal opinion. A lot of financial institutions are changing direction, and going against privacy (strangely enough in the name of security) and saying their clients don't control access to their own data, and must "trust" companies like aggregators.</p>

<p>Schwab cannot insist that a developer agree to being a US company and they say that the company won't sign a contract. In dealing with both IK and Schwab, I find that Schwab's story keeps changing and IK/MD has been consistent. I remember being on that thread for days and not a peep from anyone at IK. Certainly not from her while I was reading them and troubleshooting. It was other customers who came up with a fix. IK also had user email addresses where they could have sent an update, posted it on their website or whatever. At the end of the day they're providing. a product that customers like me purchased. If it quits functioning in some major aspect like this they should expect to communicate that more thoroughly than through forums. I don't know about most of the people on these forums but I don't have the time to come here unless I notice something has quit working and then it's way too late. Sorry but IK doesn't get a pass on this one. They had great customer service back when I first started using the software but it's been going downhill for a number of years now and this is getting close to rock bottom. <p>Well, I agree with you in many senses. Thank you for condemning Schwab, a global company for not informing their customers. As for iK, indeed, they depend on this forum, but don't send out emails to their customers on changes of importance. I don't know if they have a comprehensive email list - it would be nice if they did, and send out occasional messages (like CleanMyMac, they do a great job of occasional messages, but not too many).</p>
<p>I also agree that customer service has underperformed. I think they are still trying, but are depending too much on their regular users to provide answers.</p>
<p>As for USAA, I am one of those users/customers, I wrote the documentation, Stuart wrote the solution. And yes, not a peep in the forum from iK, though iK did take my documentation and wrote a knowledgebase article endorsing Stuart's solution. Months later (last week) we made it dirt simple. But that does suggest that iK gets support for free from dedicated users.</p>
<p>It's all a tumble. Though this sounds like I'm defending Moneydance, and I do appreciate this program and use it every day, there are issues.</p>
<p>But the overweening issue right now is the abandoning of OFX direct connect in favor of aggregators. MD is trying to stay in the game with Moneydance+, but it's not there yet. And yes, I am extremely upset with Schwab, USAA, and others in making such changes, and as global companies, not informing their clients.</p>
<p>MD isn't doing enough either, relying on their forum. As someone who used Microsoft Money for years and Quicken a little bit but as little as possible I thought finding MD was the best thing since sliced bread. I've been very patient over the years as they've worked on improving and I've done very little bitching (rare for me) about the program in general. I feel they are mature enough now they should have better focus on priorities and don't feel those priorities align with customer needs. Not only loosing the direct connect downloads but failing to make a bigger deal out of it with their customers is not good. They should have most people's email address to send out alerts because it's required for the license. I won't be ditching them just yet but I'm growing more impatient. I don't do software subscriptions and I refuse to go through a so called data aggregator. As long as I can import transactions (like *.ofx) I can live with that but not if they're only provided as .csv files like Schwab. Tomorrow I start moving my accounts out of Schwab.</p></div>mbrown305
