Moneydance won't start on Windows 10

Computer: Microsoft Surface Pro 7
OS: Windows 10 21H1 build 19043.1288
Moneydance version: 2022 (4055)

When I try to start Moneydance I see a spinning circle next to the mouse pointer for a second and then the spinning circle disappears and nothing else happens, I never see a blank screen and any other evidence that Moneydance has started. I uninstalled and reinstalled Moneydance. I tried to reinstall Moneydance 2021.1 (3069) by having it replace my existing install but that didn't change anything. I would attach an errlog.txt file but there is no .moneydance folder on my PC therefore no errlog.txt or config.dict files. I tried to run Moneydance in safe mode but that didn't change anything. I also tried running as an administrator, no change. I don't know when this started, this is my traveling computer and I haven't traveled in over 1.5 years.

Have you looked here for the files:
    C:\Users<username>.moneydance\Documents

Try creating a new user, installing for that user, and try to launch there?

I tried running Moneydance from 2 user accounts originally, my standard user account and my admin account, neither worked. Per Stuart Beesley I created a new users, same results. As I stated in my original message there are no .moneydance folders in my original 2 users and there isn't one in the new user so it appears that Moneydance isn't getting far enough to create these folders.

Is there an errlog.txt file? Try posting that after running MD.

    It is in
    (Windows) C:\Users(yourusername).moneydance\errlog.txt

As I have mentioned before there are no .moneydance folders in any of the user folders therefore no errlog.txt files.

If there is no .moneydance folders it is suggesting Moneydance is not starting. The software creates this folder structure when it first starts for each user.

I would be inclined to uninstall Moneydance, download a fresh copy and reinstall.

I uninstalled Moneydance, downloaded a new copy and reinstalled, Moneydance still doesn't start and there is no .moneydance folder. I also uninstalled the fresh copy, downloaded 2021.1 (3069) and installed that version, same result, Moneydance doesn't start and there is no .moneydance folder. Both versions of Moneydance that I have tried are the 64 bit versions, I have not tried the 32 bit version.

    Hi Kris,

To check whether you're using a 32-bit or 64-bit version of Windows 10, open the Settings app by pressing Windows+I, and then head to System > About. On the right side, look for the “System type” entry.

Also, is it possible that your Windows 10 is in S mode, perhaps?

I am definitely running 64 bit Windows. I turned off S mode as soon as I
got the computer and I verified that it is still off.

    Hi Kris,

Do you have Controlled Folder Access enabled?

If so, temporarily disable it, install Moneydance & reenable it.

I have never heard of this setting but I found it and it is off.

I want to let you know that I solved my problem. I ended up having other
problems so I wiped the hard drive and reinstalled Windows. I installed
Moneydance 2022 (4056) and it is running fine now. My other problems are
also gone, I don't know if the Moneydance problem and the other problems
    were related.

It sounds like you had an underlying problem at the Operating system level.

I should have also mentioned that I tried the 32 bit of Moneydance and that worked with no problems.

Thanks to all of you for your help.
