Thank you for contacting Moneydance support.

Please can you try following the steps below?:

1) Fistly you need to ensure you close Moneydance and rename your longsname.moneydance file to yourname.moneydance as outlined here

2) Double click the renamed file to launch Moneydance. Then on the summary page choose Account->Edit account and change the name there too.

I hope this information is helpful. Please let us know if you have further questions or need more assistance.

Your advice worked perfectly though I note that todays USB backup now has the prefix 21_10_27

Hopefully, weekly backups will not add to the suffix but it may be that moving my latest Moneydance file between desktop and laptop via “Import” led to the above dates 4th December 2020, 12th March 2021’ 24th September 3021’ 3rd October 2021 and 22nd October 2021 being added to my previous Moneydance file name!

However, I now know how to deal with the issue ~ so thanks again!

clivetag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/494570472021-10-27T15:34:25Z2021-10-27T15:34:25ZAccount Naming

Another option you may want to consider is this:

You could amend the backup file settings by choosing Moneydance --> Preferences, then select the 'Backups' tab, as outlined in this article of the Knowledge Base.

From this window, you can amend the backup location, and choose the maximum number of backups to be stored.

You could amend the backup location, so the automatic backup files are sent to your USB. Also, the files with a - .moneydancearchive file extension can be restored into Moneydance by double clicking them.
Alternatively, choose File --> Restore from Backup (or 'Import New Account Set' from the Welcome window). Then navigate to and select the backup file.

When you restore data from a backup file, a new data file will be created for use going forward. If the restored data file is in the default location, it's accessible from Moneydance via Help --> Show Documents Folder.

Any data files stored here are accessible from the program by choosing File --> Open. Any files you've created or restored will be listed here.

Finally, it might be useful referring you to this article about "Syncing with Other Computers" here.
