Under Graphs and Reports how do I get reports to come up. When I select any item on the list only graphs show up with no opbvious way to change ti a report. Graphs are not useful at all to me.
I want to make up an income report by selecting categories and an expense report with selected categories and tags. All I need for my tax preparer.

    Hello,

Graphs cannot be changed into reports. In general, graphs are listed first with a 'graph' icon next to them, after which the reports are listed. For example, you would first encounter an "Income and Expense" entry which would be a graph, but scrolling down more you should see an "Income and Expense" report.

If this is not what you are seeing, please attach a screenshot of what you are looking at. If you're not sure how to take a screenshot, please see http://www.take-a-screenshot.org/

Okay, that was helpful. Apparently I cannot create an "expense only" report and an "income only" report because they are listed only as graphs. Income and Expenses (totals or detail) is all I have to choose from. When I create the detailed income and expense report (tax related only) the final, bottom line figure shows a total for expenses and a total for income. I need to be able to create a report on the rentals only that shows the expenses and their total separate from the rental income and total. Here is what I did to try and create a rental report - I opened the income and expense detail report then selected “edit” and selected each rental in the list that appears. There is no place to select “OK” at the bottom so I select the return button. The rentals list in the tax related details report stays the same. Still no rental report with a separate list and total for expenses and a separate list and total for income. This seems so basic to me and should be intuitive. My tax preparer needs this information. It makes her job a lot easier.

    So, what am I missing?

I think we may need to see a screen shot of your parameters window for the report.

I expect to be able to generate a report showing all income items and totals followed by all Expense items.

You're right that there is not a separate income only or expense only report. You could use the Income and Expenses report to show only income or expenses by deselecting all of the categories you don't want included in that report, if I'm understanding what you are trying to do correctly. If that doesn't meet your needs, let us know what it's lacking, or what it still includes that you don't want to see in there.

I had an ah ha moment during the night. I used to use Quicken which automatically separated the rental expenses from the rental income. My revelation was that I may have to create an "Income:Rental" category to list all the income under. I set up the new category and corrected all the income entries. That worked. The final rental expense report still leaves a lot to be desired but I think we can work with it.

I understand there is an upgrade now that can be downloaded. Have you upgraded? if so are there noticeable improvements? I’m thinking of downloading the upgrade tomorrow.

    Thank you

    just a user

What version of MD are you using now? What operating system (PC/Mac/Linux)

Most changes are incremental (with exceptions like MD+ and iCloud sync), but depending on how "far" you are upgrading (i.e. some wait years to upgrade), you can get info on changes on the blogs on the website, or if interested in incremental fixes, you can look at www.moneydance.com/preview

Yes, that makes sense. If you haven't been tracking your rental income with a specific category, the Income and Expense report would have no way to identify those values, or would just see them however they are currently categorized.

Assuming you bought this directly from MD/IK, you should go to
    www.moneydance.com/purchase

and enter your license key under "upgrading". You will probably qualify for a half-price upgrade (although I am "just a user", so can't be sure)

That said, as you indicate, it would probably be a good idea to peruse what has changed in the last two years and if it applies to your needs.

Note that you will be offered 2022.2(4060) which is the current stable release, but AT THIS TIME 2022.3(4063) is the preview version - and is mostly a bug fix version, so you should grab that if you upgrade. (Note: this is not always true, and previews are often beta versions that are really "previews" - MD is also advocating grabbing 4063 if you upgrade)

    Hope that helps.
