Hello,
Are you able to open your main filename.moneydance data file (not the backups)? If not, what's the full name of the file you are trying to open, including the file extension at the end? We'll probably need to do some work to get a backup to open correctly on such a large jump in version numbers since that format has gone through a few changes, but the main data file should be easier to open.

Ethan, thanks for your fast response. I have older backups on our file
server with two sets of files named moneydance data (2022_01_01 15_07_02
UTC).md and the second set named MoneyDance Data (2022_01_01 15_07_02
UTC).md-2022-01-01. These are not the MoneyDance 5 day generated backups
labeled simply MoneyDance Data.md and MoneyDance Data.md-2021-12-28
through MoneyDance Data.md-2022-01-01. I might be able to reconstruct
this data on another linux computer. On the original computer I have
encounter other installation problems reinstalling the old version after
installing the new version.. so it might be more straight forward to
just start with a new install on this second computer using the prior
backups. Being on east coast time I think I will abandon this for the
evening and have a glass of wine! So no hurry on your part tonight. Thanks
Forest

Hi Forest,
Thanks for the additional information. If you have file names that end with the .md extension, that would suggest you were using Moneydance 2011 or earlier, not Moneydance 2012. That's an important detail, since the file format changed between those versions. Are you able to open the MoneyDance Data.md file by use the open other option from the Moneydance welcome screen or the menu bar (File -> Open -> Open Other)? This should recognize your older file and convert it into the newer format. Or, you can rename any of those backup files so they just end with .md (removing the 'date' part of the name after that), and the program should recognize those as well.

Ethan, that worked! I also had a second anomaly that I resolved. The app
launcher did not launch the MoneyDance program. I could execute it using
the terminal but not the launcher... probably from my many
installs/re-installs. Changing the programs path in the launch app
solved that.
Thanks again for your responsiveness,
Forest

Hi Forest,
I'm glad to hear everything sounds like it has been sorted out! You probably also could have created a new shortcut for the new installation in the launcher with the correct path, although your method sounds like it worked as well.
Please let me know if I can be of further assistance,
Ethan
