My responses are:

#1 Moneydance does not have the ability to download or install upgrades, both require human intervention.

#2 The name in the top bar is the name of the data files (data set) it bears no relationship to version you are running.

You may or may not be able to go back to Moneydance 2015.

While the fundamental data has the same format there have been many detail changes in the intervening time.

In addition macOS updates have repeatedly broken Moneydance necessitating upgrades. According to my notes the minimum version of Moneydance for each macOS version is:

2017.6 10.13 High Sierra (Sep 2017)
2017.8 10.14 Mojave (Sep 2018)
2019.3 10.15 Catalina (Oct 2019)
2021.1 11.00 Big Sur (Nov 2020) - will also report itself as 10.16
2022.2 12.00 Monterey (Oct 2021)

Moneydance 2015 is available from:

A discounted upgrade is available by using the upgrade field on:

The above information is correct. Moneydance has no ability to download and install newer versions on its own.

Unless you have recently upgraded your operating system, you should be able to try to return to the 2015 version, if you'd prefer do to that rather than purchase a discounted upgrade to the latest version. However, I'd also agree with the above comment that just because you put that year in your file name, that doesn't necessarily mean you were last using that version.
