Your data file should end with the .md extension.
e.g. new install 14.1.21.md

Rename the file so as to remove the trailing -2021-01-14 (note the - in front of the 2021).

A file with a .md extension is from Moneydance 2011 or earlier. I suspect you may be following an incorrect process to import this file into a recent version of Moneydance.

Try the following process:

Rename the file from "new install 14.1.21.md-2021-01-14" to "new install 14.1.21.md" at the very least. Personally I would give it the final name I want , so for example I might want it to be called "My Finances.md" This would save a name change later on

Go to the Welcome to Moneydance screen if need you can use the menu path Windows --> Welcome to Moneydance

On the Welcome screen choose the option to "Import new account set"

In the navigation window that comes up go to the folder the .md file is in and select it, then choose open

Choose "Convert and Import" in the Moneydance convert Window. /this will convert the file into the new data format and bring the data into the Moneydance library. I would only choose Convert Only if I was an experienced computer and Moneydance user and understood all the implications.

This should bring the data set into Moneydance, perform the necessary conversion and place the new data set in the default location.

dwgtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/497719022022-01-27T10:04:29Z2022-01-27T10:04:29ZImport error

Hi dwg
That works, many thanks.
Is it possible to append a set of accounts into an existing set? Could see a way of doing it.

Also realised ive posted my accounts onto a support forum, can I delete the file?

Thanks for you help.

As to "Is it possible to append a set of accounts into an existing set" More information is needed on where these accounts are. But in general of they are in another Moneydance file it is not possible to merge data sets. If you can get the transactions into a QIF file these can be imported and in certain instances so can CSV files.

dwgtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/497719022022-01-27T10:33:56Z2022-01-27T10:33:57ZImport error

Thanks for the prompt response.
I guess your not support so I need to0 email them?

The dataset I want to import is just some work I did yesterday in MoneyDance. So could I export as QIF and then import into my main MD file?

Yes you could export as a QIF and them import. I would take a backup so if you do not like the results you could restore the backup and go back to where you were.

dwgtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/497719022022-01-27T11:25:42Z2022-01-27T11:25:42ZImport error

Hi Roger,
