While clearing out old files on my computer I saw a file titled "Personal Finances-20190817-1310-20190923-1801.moneydancearchive". I clicked on it. The result was not what I expected...It did not open as a separate window. (I had MoneyDance open at the time.) The data in MoneyDance is now data that only goes to "20190817" - August 17, 2019! How do I get back to the data that was on my screen before I clicked on this file! Is all my data from August 17, 2019 GONE?

I'm a fellow user.
What you have done is restore a backup and opened it, it is not a disaster.
If you use the menu command File --> Open you should be presented with a list of Moneydance data sets (files) select your original one and it should open.

Thank you so so much!
I figured there should be an easy way to do this, but I could not figure out how to access my original data set!
I really appreciate your help!
Have a great day! (Now, thanks to your help, I will, too.)

You are welcome.
I would suggest it would be a good idea to delete the data file that you created by doing the restore so that you are not confused by its presence, also I think it is unlikely that you would use it in any case so it serves no purpose.
There is an article in the Knowledge Base on how to do this:
