It is pretty hard for a program like Moneydance to effectively deal with rubbish data and unfortunately some of the banks can be quite creative.

There is one setting in Moneydance that may help you however, since there is one error that quite a few institutions seem to routinely do.

Under the menu option File --> Preferences go to the Network tab.

On this tab change the option to "Ignore Transaction types in Favor of amount Signs"

This is the only option I can think of that may help.

dwgtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/498790722022-04-03T22:29:52Z2022-04-03T22:29:57ZQFX imports don't handle refunds correctly

dwg,

I can confirm that I'm having the same issue, and have been, with Chase for quite a while. This worked great! I have been dealing with this for a couple of years! Thank you.

jbrodmanntag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/498790722022-04-04T02:01:38Z2022-04-04T02:01:38ZQFX imports don't handle refunds correctly

DWG - thank you so much! Tonight was the first time I had a chance to try this out, because I didn't have any refunds to test it with until now. It worked perfectly. I don't know how you came to that answer, but again - THANK YOU!

therealex123tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/498790722022-04-04T02:32:19Z2022-04-04T02:32:19ZQFX imports don't handle refunds correctly

Chase has a track record of interpreting download formats in interesting ways. They broke QIF downloads some years ago and there was no ambiguity in that part of the spec, that error is glaring when you look at the files produced.

With OFX data it has been observed that some institutions do not set things like transaction types correctly - they should be set to either a Debit or a Credit with a matching sign on the amount, but instead some just use the value of the transaction to indicate if it is a credit or debit.

This setting tells Moneydance to just look at the sign and ignore the transaction type, it is one of those things that is worth trying when such a problem presents.

Glad it worked for you.

dwg
