columns sizes and sequence in reports

I've been using MD for a long time, and have never encountered this problem before. I cannot format my reports, memorized or otherwise, so that I can view them properly on screen. I've added my thoughts about this to another discussion, but that one was originally started weeks ago, and there has been no response to it. I'm trying to get my taxes done on a timetable, and I haven't got time or patience to fiddle with formatting errors in MD.
Specifically, I need to be able to either rearrange the order of columns in the reports, or set the column widths AND HAVE THOSE WIDTHS RETAINED in the memorized report. Why is this not happening? I'm running MD 2022-2 on Mac Mojave. PLEASE. HELP.

It’s difficult for anyone to reply to your dilemma if you don’t say which Report in MD you are struggling with.
You say that you “haven't got time or patience to fiddle with formatting in MD”
I would therefore suggest that instead of what you are doing now, that when you have your MD report on screen that you click the COPY button. Your MacOS comes with the free Numbers program. Paste the output from MD into a Numbers Spreadsheet, you will then be able to do all your adjustments & get your taxes ready more easily.

I don’t particularly appreciate being lectured by someone who’s proposing a workaround that’s every bit as cumbersome as rearranging the columns over and over again. One of the great beauties of memorized reports is being able to instantly flip back and forth between the underlying data and the report itself.
For the record, I’m using the Income and Expenses reports, in both summary and detail formats. But I have tried other reports, and they all have the same problem.
A better workaround will be for me to roll back to MD 2017.
What this needs is a fix. Not a workaround.

I'm having the same problem. Specifically, the columns on the Income and Expense details report are missing. I can see Category, Date, Account columns. Then the Description column is infinitely wide to the right. There's no way to edit the width to reveal the hidden columns for Amount, totals, etc.

The Description column isn’t infinitely wide, actually. If you scroll far enough right, you’ll find the rest of the columns. And then they can be dragged to the left of the description column, so you can at least see them. But you have to repeat the column-dragging every time you open the report. It really reduces the overall utility of the reports.

Have you tried upgrading to the latest preview version yet? This should hopefully fix the problem for you.

Thanks, Maddy, just downloaded 2022-3. But I don't see any difference at all. I still can't resize a column, or change the order of columns, and have those changes retained in the memorized file.

still need to reconfigure the report columns every time its run. Saving
the corrected report has no impact.

Sorry for the misunderstanding!
Firstly, it is not currently possible changing the order of columns from any report. What should be possible on the other hand is to point your cursor on the header (after generating the report) and drag the columns sideways (until you reach the size you wish). Finally you should be able to "Save" or "Print" such report keeping the customized size.
However, Memorizing a report memorizes the criteria used to generate the report (its content) not the layout.
Finally, the report size should never be "infinitely wide" and this is why I recommend trying with the update. If that didn't help either, we might need further details to establish what might be causing the problem.
Please can you send us your Moneydance error logs?
They are saved on your computer as an errlog.txt file.
You can get to your error logs as follow:
1) navigate to Help->Console Window to show the console log in a window, while you are generating a report.
or
2) in the Finder, press ⌘⇧G and then copy and paste
~/Library/Containers/com.infinitekind.MoneydanceOSX/Data/Library/Application Supportinto the field and press enter/return.At that point the finder will show an internal folder which contains the errlog.txt file which contains the log.
Finally you can paste the full content to your next reply here.

Hi Maddy - Thanks for the quick response. I updated to 2022.3 (4067). The problem seems to be when the "show memo" is included in the report. I can't find the Amount column, even by dragging the other headers. The report is ok with unchecking the "show memo".
