As a starting point I would suggest you post the Moneydance error log.

If you are using a Mac, it should be located at one of these locations within your Home folder:

~/Library/Containers/Moneydance/Data/Library/Application Support/Moneydance/errlog.txt

or:

~/Library/Containers/com.infinitekind.MoneydanceOSX/Data/Library/Application Support/Moneydance/errlog.txt

or:

~/Library/Application Support/Moneydance/errlog.txt

Depending on your version of the Mac Operating System.

If you have any trouble finding your Home Library folder you can open Finder and hold down the option key while selecting the Go menu and the Library folder option should occur or you can open Finder and select Go -> Go to Folder and copy and paste in the following:

~/Library

This should pull up your local Library folder.

If you are using Windows, it should be located under your login directory at:

C:\Users(yourusername).moneydance\errlog.txt

or

C:\Documents and Settings(yourusername).moneydance\errlog.txt

Depending on your version of Windows

If you are using Linux it should be located in your home folder at:
~/.moneydance/errlog.txt

dwgtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/503537122022-02-26T10:27:02Z2022-02-26T10:27:02ZReminder will not delete

+1 vote for error log. I suspect you have a bad, repeating, archived txn that re-saves the reminder.

Stuart Beesley (Mr Toolbox)tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/503537122022-02-26T10:28:24Z2022-02-26T10:28:24ZReminder will not delete

Also try installing latest preview, and then start and quit MD three times. Then delete reminder. Then restart again. See if that works too.

(As we fixed the problem I mentioned in last post in latest preview)

Stuart Beesley (Mr Toolbox)tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/503537122022-02-26T15:41:41Z2022-02-26T15:41:44ZReminder will not delete

Hi Thanks for your replies.

I attach MD Error log but I can't see that it shows much.

The reminder that I'm trying to permanently remove was a monthly transaction from years ago in a redundant bank account. I have a current reminder with the same name, but a different payment amount and I wonder if that may be the problem?

I can't recall what I did to cause this problem but, when I open MD, in the reminders list for the current month, are many instances of reminders for the old item that were from a closed account all dated for months several years ago.

The problem occurs every month when the payment would be due but not in between months.

Thank you for your help.
I located the above (3) files and deleted them. Then I deleted the offending reminder.
On shutting down MD and reloading the old reminders in the list did not appear.
However if I shut down MD and again reloaded they appeared again. They are always reminders of the same sequence dates in 2016-7. If I manually tell MD to skip some of these transactions, it makes no difference in that the same reminders appear again. I wonder if I should make a backup, delete the program and reinstall?

Thanks, Jim

James Bestontag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/503537122022-02-26T20:17:36Z2022-02-26T20:17:37ZReminder will not delete

The essential thing is that I can delete the reminder and then reload MD without the offending reminders appearing but, if I then close and reload a second time, there they are!
I#ll wait until it is available at an upgrade price.

I realised my procedure was flawed. I should have said ‘and edit a transaction, or reminder, or anything in MD after each restart, and before the next restart.

The edit forces MD to create a new archive txn file which in turn will force a trunk (dataset) resave upon the next launch.

Anyway, redundant now as you’ve fixed it. But for the record…

Stuart Beesley (Mr Toolbox)tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/503537122022-02-27T12:39:02Z2022-02-27T12:39:04ZReminder will not delete

Many thanks for the information, Stuart.
