I have been using this application for years without a problem and now I lost months of data which I'm trying to re-create and it won't let me reconcile.

Hi Julia,
We are sorry to hear about the problem you have encountered.
Generally, to find your previous data file, open Moneydance and click on File > Open, you will see a list of all recently opened data files.
If you cannot find your data file there, then click on Help > Show Document Folder, this will open your default data file location, where all of the data files are located.
Another option is to click on Help > Show Archive Folder, this will open the default backup file location and you can choose to restore a backup.
What do you mean when you say that Moneydance "won't let you reconcile"?
Is it "freezing", perhaps?
If so, when Moneydance appears to freeze try Alt –> Spacebar –> M and use the arrow keys, to see if you can move a missing dialog back on screen. This can happen if at some time you have connected a second monitor.
If this is not the case can you describe the issue in more detail, please?
Which version and build of Moneydance are you using?
To check, open Moneydance and select Help --> About Moneydance
