I don't think I've ever encountered this before, but it's good to know that Moneydance is so wildly used that one might encounter it having been installed by a previous user.

First, make sure you are installing the correct version of Moneydance. In general, you should install the same version you are using on your other system, if possible. If you need an older version, you can find it at: https://infinitekind.com/previous-versions-of-moneydance

If that doesn't clear out the license issue, let's try resetting your preferences, which may have been left on there from the previous user, even if they deleted the program. To do this, you have to rename your config.dict file.

If you're using Windows, it should be located at:

C:/Users/(yourusername)/.moneydance/config.dict

Once you've found your config.dict file, close Moneydance and rename it (to something like config2.dict, for example), then open Moneydance again and it will appear as though you've just installed Moneydance for the first time, so you'll have to re-enter your license key and may have to locate and open your data set again. If you run into any problems, you can simply close Moneydance and rename the original config.dict file back to config.dict and open Moneydance again to restore your original settings.

My original version is:
2017 .7 the ONLY 2017 verson I can find in you list is: 2017 .10 which is the one that downloaded - how can I use my key when there is no matching verson???

Thanks

Linda Czajatag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/505084822022-03-07T02:14:11Z2022-03-07T02:14:11Zswitching to a 'new to me' pc

A license key for Moneydance 2017 is valid for every point release.

A license key must be entered exactly as it has been received so ensure a mistake is not being made on entry.

A valid license for Moneydance 2017 I would expect to start with one of the following sequences:

A5019xxxxx
B5019xxxxx
B228xxxxx
B229xxxxx

dwgtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/505084822022-03-07T04:57:17Z2022-03-07T04:57:17Zswitching to a 'new to me' pc

2017.10 here

Why not check your key here. Bottom box.
