blank accounts and reminders after a computer rebuild
Help! I had to reload my MAC by scrubbing all files off and starting fresh. I made MULTIPLE copies of my MD file including the ones that Mac's Time Machine made. OK, now the MAC is reloaded and I reinstalled MD. Then I brought my latest MD file back to my hdd and now I have a problem. Each of my accounts are still there but they have all been zero'd out. Additionally, all of my reminders are gone as well. Please tell me there is another file I need to bring over to get me back where I was before I started this project....
Good luck digging out of the snow. I live in Buffalo and you guys got more snow than us!
TIA,
Cal

Cal,
What was the name of the MD file you opened? Was it your main file or a back up? Do you have a copy of this file that you haven't since opened and edited in Moneydance that you could tell me what it says in its properties regarding when it was last modified? I'm wondering if you are looking at a file that is old, and perhaps from when you first started using Moneydance and had just created your accounts.
Thanks,

Jon,
Thanks for getting back to me so fast. Attached is a TIFF file that
is a partial look at my MD folder. I did not modify the file when I
drug / dragged it over. Also, all transactions are gone from each of
the accounts as well. Help me please.....
TIA,
Cal

Hi Cal,
So I'm going to talk to our lead developer about your problem but until we hear back from him, here is a few suggestions. Try opening up one of your back up files. Go to open, under the file menu and in the box change it from moneydance files to all files. Now select one of your back ups and open it. Is that any better? Another thing I am wondering is are you using the same version of Moneydance now that you were using before. If you look under help -> about Moneydance it should tell you. Let me know how those things go. I'm goin to ask our lead developer about this and be in touch. I want to give you a heads up though, as I imagine you want a timely reply, that because of the storm that is headed for us we might be expecting another round of power outs... But I'll do my best to see that we get back to you as quick as possible.

Cal, just to stick in my 2 cents, when you go to open a back up file make sure you delete the characters after ".md". I have found from experience that the program doesn't recognize any file with the date or any other character after the ".md".

Cal,
I just talked to our lead developer. In addition to some of the things I suggested here are a few more things. Do you have the correct date set on your computer. There is a chance that if you have one of the filters in MD set to something like 'show only last 30 days' and you have the wrong date that that could make it such that no data is displayed. Another thing I wonder is, in finder, what size are your files? I'll keep trying to think of more things to try.
The only other option I can think of is, if you are willing and comfortable with this, is to send me a copy of your Moneydance file. You could send it from your email to my email [email blocked] . I would delete it as soon as I am done with it. I may, if its okay with you, show it to our lead developer to try and figure it out. This would not reveal information about how to access your bank accounts to me, but it would show me financial information you have in Moneydance. However, since I am only trying to get it to display at all, assuming I can find it, I wouldn't need to be looking very closely at it. However, I'll understand if you don't want to take that risk.
One other thing that came to me while typing this is you could install Moneydance on a different computer and see how the files display on there. This would tell us if its an error in your installation/computer or if there is a problem with the file.
Okay, let me know how all these suggestions work out for you,

Jon,
Give me abit of time to see what happened. I was able to activate an
earlier MD file (2-3 days earlier). I can not explain what the
difference is since I used the same new MD version and did not have to
rename the data file to get it. I have not had time to validate the
numbers but anything is better than all zeros. I'll get back to you.
I appreciate your timeliness and responsiveness every time I've had an
issue. You guys are doing great. Thanks.
Cal
