I have to close and reopen Moneydance to have the forecast show the updated balances. The older version updated after every change to the tracked accounts. Is there some setting in Moneydance to have this auto-update?
Duncan, how do you manually recalculate the forecast? I didn't see any option to do this other than closing and reopening MD.

TODD STIDHAMtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/540952022022-07-25T13:59:21Z2022-07-26T12:28:58ZForesight Forecast has stopped automatically updating

Please accept my sincere apologies for the delay getting back to you. I’m afraid that your request for assistance was missed by the support team, and it’s only now we’ve been able to work through the backlog of older discussions. I must apologise again for the poor level of service and lack of support you have received. I’d like to provide assistance if you’re still in a position to work through these issues.

Have you tried upgrading to the latest preview version?
Moneydance 2022.5 (4088) is now available to download from this page. This is a free upgrade for you!
You should remove or choose to overwrite the older version and restart Moneydance!

If the problem persists, please send us your Moneydance error logs. The logs should include information about what might be causing the problem.

They are saved on your computer as an errlog.txt file.

You can get to your error logs as follow:

1) navigate to Help->Console Window to show the console log in a window

or

2) in the Finder, press ⌘⇧G and then copy and paste
~/Library/Containers/com.infinitekind.MoneydanceOSX/Data/Library/Application Support
into the field and press enter/return.

At that point the finder will show an internal folder which contains the errlog.txt file which contains the log.

Finally you can paste the full content to your next reply.
If I am in the summary and view the current forecast and note a balance for a future date, then go into the tracked account and add a new transaction (say a $200 withdrawal), then go back to summary, it still shows the original balance. If I then close and reopen MD, the balance properly shows the -200 correction. I have since also found I can just click the up/down arrow button on forecast widget to open the settings, then just click the OK button and that will manually refresh the forecast without having to open and close the program.

TODD STIDHAMtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/540952022022-07-26T15:40:36Z2022-07-26T15:40:39ZForesight Forecast has stopped automatically updating

Just an observation….

What you describe is true, it does not refresh when the widget is shown on the summary page. However, I don’t particularly like said graph on the summary page as it is fixed in size for one thing.

However, If you go to drop down menu Tools > Foresight Review the generated graph is refreshed each time you run it (without restarting MD).

You are presented with a much more useful & resizable display which allows you to pushout the graph to years ahead if so desired, without legibility issues. I removed the puny little widget version some time ago, as it is far less useful on the Summary screen, in my opinion!

However, the tool itself I find irreplaceable & of significant value.

For example entering security prices using the security price enter extension does not cause an update, having another window open and entering a transactions does not cause the summary page in the other window to update etc.

dwgtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/540952022022-07-29T13:00:21Z2022-07-29T13:00:21ZForesight Forecast has stopped automatically updating

I appreciate folks offering ideas, but when foresight forecast was a paid MD add-on, it did auto update after any change to the tracked accounts everytime you returned to the summary page. Now that this add-on is included in the latest version, it no longer does this. That is where the complaint is.

TODD STIDHAMtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/540952022022-07-30T14:52:04Z2022-07-30T14:52:04ZForesight Forecast has stopped automatically updating

@Todd, that is true and when Foresight as an extension operated in its own window it updated dynamically. However, if you open Foresight in its own window it will still update dynamically. I would personally not have MD wasting power and running down my battery just to keep some plots updated that may not currently need. If I need them, I will open them in their own window. But that is me, YMMV. (NOT IK support)

sthtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/540952022022-07-30T16:51:36Z2022-07-30T16:51:39ZForesight Forecast has stopped automatically updating

I had Forsight added as a widget on the summary screen, not open in its own window and it worked just fine. And considering I only opened MD once every couple of days, used it for 10-20 minutes at a time, battery life was not a concern.

TODD STIDHAMtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/540952022022-08-14T16:24:32Z2022-08-14T16:24:32ZForesight Forecast has stopped automatically updating

2022.5 HAS NOT SOLVED THE PROBLEM

Duncan Machray
